How did you score round 5?

Obviously AJ knocked Wlad down but after that he was out on his feet and on the verge of being stopped. If he hadn't scored the KD(although he did) then a good case for 10-8 to Wlad could be made.
Automatically scoring a round 10-8 just because there was a knockdown is lazy and not right. Wlad won that round for me but obviously has to lose a point for a KD. I scored it 10-9 AJ but had originally scored it 10-10.

Agreed I had it 10-9.
It takes a bit for me to score a round with a knockdown as 10-9, but Joshua was so stunned at the end of the round that it swayed it.

9-9
I never quite understand why the "10 pt must system" is called the "10 pt MUST system" because it often means you score neither guy 10, but..
Wlad wins the round so "must" get 10-9 (not dominant enough for 10-8 only enough to nick the round) for winning the round, then -1 for AJ's knockdown, so = 9-9

Borderline, but 10-8.
Joshua was absolutely dead on his feet and had there been another 30 seconds in that round he may have been stopped.
All in all though i think it takes either a return knock down or something exceptional to overturn a 10-8 and i think Klitchko was a punch or 2 short of it. Story of his night really, doesn't have a finish in him anymore.

Wtf is this!?
You don't get a 9-9 unless theres a point off instructed by the ref. Someone "must" get 10. If you think the round is even it's 10-10.

10-8. Thems the rules.

Has to be a 10/8 doesn't it? I thought Wlad was gonna stop him though when he got up! Was a strange round. What a fight.

I don't think it is "the rules" can anyone get a proper explanation? Imagine a fighter had absolutely and unequivicably battered another about for the first 2.55 and then the other one caught him a flash knockdown on the back of the head that had him momentarily touch his glove on the canvas- is that a 10-8 round?

10-9. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE A POINT OFF FOR A KNOCKDOWN! Seeing as Joshua spent most of that round in dreamland it would be a travesty to give him a 2-pt advantage for it.

I had it 10-8, but I would have no problem with 10-9 AJ in retrospect. It was a surreal round.

Wrong; the rules are the fighter that is put down loses a point. So if he was winning you take a point off giving him 9 points, under the 10 must system you automatically give the other fighter 10 points making it 10 - 9. If the fighter that went down was also losing the round and gets put down he would then lose the point for the knock down making it a 10 - 8 round.

Yes you do; a boxer that is put down loses 1 point. See my previous post for examples.

Yep. It was bordering a 10-8 round for Wlad in my opinion but the judges have to score it 10-8 because of the knockdown. Not sure if it was the 5th or 6th when Joshua seemed to fall back into the ropes and we've seen them ruled as knockdowns before . . . .

10/9 AJ of course.
Kockdown aside, Wlad had a huge round dominating for about 2 1/2 minutes and badly hurting Josh. So has to deserve a point. But Josh gets two points for the knock down, so 10/9 AJ

If the fighter that is knocked down comes back to do heavy damage to his opponent and win the majority of the round which Wlad did it's not unusual to score the round 10-9 instead of 10-8 for the fighter that scored the knockdown. It doesn't happen a lot, but it does happen.
Another good example that comes to mind is Jameel McCline vs Calvin Brock. McCline dropped Brock hard in the 5th or 6th round, I forget which, but Calvin Brock got up and beat the crap out of him for the rest of the round, and I think all 3 judges scored it 10-9 for McCline due to Brock's effort after the knockdown.

This is the type of round that should be shown to people who want to judge a boxing match its the round that someone knocks-down their opponent but still only get a 10-9 round despite the knock-down....................Wlad certainly fought back enough to turn a 10-8 round back into a 10-9 round.

This. I'm glad this thread was started actually as I had a real issue regarding this being automatically scored as a 10-8 to AJ

How to score a round with a knockdown in it is a bit of an old chestnut on boxrec - seems to come up without fail every 12 months.
See
http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f ... &p=4081191 for one of the previous discussions on it.
Basically:
- there is nothing in any rules that I have ever seen that says scoring a knockdown means there is automatically a 10-8 round. It seems to be a falsehood made up by commentators and the like. If anyone has a link to any rules stating that a knockdown means an automatic 10-8 round, please post the link (I'd genuinely like to know as I have a soft spot for rules and regs, sadly).
- it is similarly wrong to say "it would have been 10-8 but Vlad fought back well so that only makes it 10-9", as that is again starting from the point of an automatic 10-8 round which you then adjust.
- under British rules, you score the round ignoring the knockdown, then adjust the scoring by a point for the knockdown. The knockdown doesn't mean that the fallen fighter automatically loses the round - if you were to take that approach, you'd be scoring the knockdown twice (once by saying it means the other fighter wins the round, then once more by taking an extra point from the fallen fighter). So if you think, based on punches landed in the round and ignoring the KD, Vlad won the round 10-9, then it becomes 10-10 due to the knockdown. If you think the round was even, 10-10, then it becomes 10-9 with the knockdown. If you think Joshua won the round 10-9 ignoring the knockdown, then it becomes 10-8. (As an aside, the reason why most rounds with knockdowns in are correctly scored 10-8 is that the pressure exerted on the fallen fighter before or after the knockdown normally wins the other fighter the round 10-9, with the extra point making it 10-8).
- the IBF has always taken the same approach - see McAuley-Blanco 1 from the early 90s where in a couple of rounds McAuley was floored but won the remaining 2:40 of each round with his jab, and at least one judge scored those rounds 10-10.
But I appreciate why people are often not clear on this - in Britain, these principles are contained not in the main book of Regulations ("the green book") but in the Referees' Guide ("the blue book"), which is not widely available. And other jurisdictions and bodies don't seem to go into this detail at all.
And, just to answer the OP's question, I had round 5 10-10. But then again, I had Klitschko 4 points up at the end of round 10, so I might be in the minority.
