Listening to the news on some random Florida radio station yesterday when they said this...

"Boxing has a new heavyweight champion after challenger Anthony Joshua defeated champion Wladimir Klitschko in the 11th round in front of 90,000 fans in London last night"

Ok so they may have got a few facts wrong but for boxing to even be mentioned in the media is HUGE. Especially when you consider neither fighter is American.

Does these mean we'll have to stay up until feckin 4am soon? You know for a fact Eddie wants to mix it as the main man in Vegas & New York.

Could AJ be PPV in the USA? His biggest feck up the other night was thanking every country but the USA.

If Joshua has any sense he'd reduce the share Matchroom has in any future deal. He absolutely calls all the shots now.

In time he'll probably fornicate them off full time, and bounce around promotions, one off deals etc, good luck to him.

If he does fight in Vegas I'm there. Even if I don't get tickets to the fought I'll be there for the craic.

Yeh I'd be up for a Vegas fight, not been much decent for British fans since Hatton so it would inevitably be huge,

Don't understand anyone saying that. What have ITV proved in terms of ability to build a boxer, build a profile, do the PR and get someone to superstar level? ITV don't give a crap about boxing. Matchroom have done a great job with Joshua, whether you like Hearn or not, him and Matchroom are good at what they do.

They are great at what they do and they've built him well. I just like seeing fighters, once they reach a level of fame, go it alone and keep a bigger slice of the pie. I dislike all promoters as a general rule. Hearn cruises around in a Bentley paid for off the back of Boxers talents, courage and sheer hard graft.

Think Hearn gets some unfair criticism, if your beef is with all promoters, fair enough, but for the most part Eddie has shown himself to treat his boxers well. I hope it stays that way. The fans may get ripped off in the process but we're talking about fighters having power in financial situations whilst ridiculing the Eubank's.

I'm in Canada, and other than people I've met through boxing, I don't think I personally know anyone who was aware that the fight happened

Same here in Florida which is why I was completely shocked to hear it on the radio.

AJ doesn't need the American market anyway, although if he can cultivate significant interest there without jepordizing his standing in the UK it wouldn't hurt

Eddie hearn has done amazing for Joshua
He is the biggest star in British sport now
I really hope he doesn't go to America but if he does he has a multiple fan base of Hatton already.
Never in my lifetime did I think more people would travel to Vegas for a British fighter but then came aj

I disagree. They big money in boxing is in the UK. All sorts of fighters want to fight over here - including Golovkin and Klitschko.

AJ's previous US TV numbers (for Martin and Breazeale) were pretty dire. It will be interesting to see what the figures are like for the Klit fight, and if they're anything close to suggesting a US PPV future.

Wlad has been a good American TV draw, so the ratings should at least comfortably surpass the Martin and Breazeale fights.

I've got no grind with Eddie. He's made a lot of money for fighters, so for me, he's a lesser of the promotion evils. I just don't like that promoters exist as they do I guess. The Bentley comment wasn't aimed at him personally, just the situation.
Is there a better way? Maybe not. I'm sure someone would have come up with it by now wouldn't they!?

Pulev in front of 60k in Cardiff is being talked about! Joshua is a-list in the U.K now for sure.

His next move should be joining that annoying fat pudendum James Corden on his chat show. He somehow seems to have made a bit of a splash in the States. Would be good exposure

There is big money to be made in both countries.

What was the PPV for Saturday? Maybe 1.5million at 20 quid a pop. 30 million quid or so.

Compare that to Mayweather Pacquiao when you had 4.4 million sales of around $95 a go. That's $400,000,000.

Now I'm not saying Joshua v Wilder will even do half of that but a quarter is still $100,000,000.

That may not need the US market but they definitely want it.

AJ-Wilder wouldn't do anywhere near 1 million buys in the US, at least not in the near future.

Well, Wilder would definitely be the key then as he's the only American with a heavyweight title and having two huge guys with unbeaten records in their primes, unifying, is sure to be a big deal.

That's the promoters job. Build them up. It can be done.

If Joshua's win is being mentioned on random small time radio stations in Florida then it shows there's some kind of interest. America does love Heavyweight boxing even though it's been shite since Holyfield & Tyson faded. The love affair has faded but can be rekindled.

A couple of promotional tours of the States & they'd lap Joshua up. A good looking black bloke with an English accent. He'd be mobbed. Although they might mistake him for Idris Elba

Then play up Wilder's small town, ex football player roots & show him being a lovely dad to his physically challenged daughter. Then highlight reels of the 56 knockouts between them. Then a shot of Wilder eating Southern BBQ ribs & another one of Joshua enjoying a cuppa

Anyway, my point is that the potential is there. And they're both with Showtime.

I don't think a cursory mention on the radio means too much, and it's not like AJ will stand out in the US for being a big, athletic black guy. By the way, didn't you previously complain that no one in the US was talking about AJ-Wlad?

GGG consistently does 1m+ on US TV (AJ previously did around 200k), yet his PPVs only did about 150k, and Cotto-Canelo didn't even do 1m PPVs, despite both being excellent draws in the US. It will take an absolutely colossal jump in AJ and Wilder's American profiles to get them near 1m buys, and I'm not sure the US boxing landscape is in the right condition for that to happen.

Showtime has a relatively limited reach, and by Showtime standards 450k viewers for Porter-Berto was fairly solid. Broner's last fight did their biggest numbers in a few years, and that was still only around 700k.
