Former heavyweight champion Riddick "Big Daddy" Bowe will make his comeback to the ring after nearly 8 years out when he takes on unknown American Jeff Lally on Sept 25th.

Blimey, the combined record of the last 2 guys Lally beat is 12-81-5. It's clear that the Bowe camp oozes confidence.
I still can't believe he's coming back. I dread to think what his movement is going to be like.

Lally was Ko'd in 2 rounds by the smooth boxing, dynamite punching, super fit Dane Brian Neilsen back in '96.
With all the close results against big names he sounds like an ideal future opponent for A-Force

Although I hate to see fighters with so many ko losses on their records you didn't honestly believe he is going to fight anyone almost approaching credible untill he is somehow in line for a title shot a la Golota

There is talk of Bowe having about 8-10 fights against this calibre opponent to build confidence and lose ring rust before moving on to better class match ups.
Personally i really doubt that Bowe has 8 fights in him at this point, he should stay out of the ring with good record of 40-1.

Of course he shouldn't be fighting, it's sad the fact that Tyson, Holyfield, Toney, Golata and now Bowe are some of the most talked about heavyweights around. Even Ike gets talked about more than most of the current crop.
I can't see him having that many fights in him or the discipline to train hard enough to keep himself busy. Think he will lose to a nobody or beat a couple before fighting for a title and getting himself seriously hurt, he hardly needs to rack up wins to be in the mix.

Bowe deserves a chance to comeback. All of you haters need to shut your faces.
Bowe took one of the most brutal beatings ever in the ring vs Golota the 2nd time, and he was still fighting until the end. Not so much that Golota is the hardest puncher around, but he landed so many hard punches. Bowe has showed toughness and heart in the past and if he wants to comeback, let him.
The problem is that this guy Lally maybe should not be allowed to fight.
He should be the one going through medical tests, but instead all of these so-called boxing experts want Riddick Bowe to go through tests just because he is famous. They don't care about washed up never-was bumbs, only about fighters that will get their name in the paper.
I don't understand all the haters. It makes no sense. You guys should take up a "Don't let Lally" fight club, instead of a Riddick Bowe haters club.

good point, Ali took a horrible beating in 1975 ........... and was still champ for 3 years. Maybe not dominate, but a top fighter.
If Riddick Bowe passed the medical tests, then you should not be negative about his return.
Bowe always talked with a mush mouth. I saw him on Legendary Nights being interviewed and he was talking just fine to me. After the 2nd Golota fight his speech was more sloppy than usual, but the guy had just been through hell.
Fine, you don't want to see him get hurt. but he's not coming out of retirement to fight Vitali Klitschko. If and when he gets to that point, we will know whether he should be fighting still or not.

The point is that Bowe has been out of the ring for years now, has a history of being in terrible shape, and looked awful against Golota. His balance was gone, his legs looked shot, he was going down from shots he took with ease in his prime. There is also the scenario of his supposed brain damage.
People are saying this out of concern for his health, not because they hate him. If Bowe is so confident about the tests, why has he got licensed in the Virgin Islands rather than NJ or Nevada?

Riddick Bowe should not be licensed to fight again, he was on his way out when Golota beat him up (twice), his record is commendable but 40-1 flatters him considering he avoided Tyson (ok so maybe not his fault) and flattly refused a bout with Lewis. Apart from Evander Hoyfield who did he ever beat? Glass jaw Herbie Hide, Cuban pretender Jorge Luis Gonzalez, Larry Donald?! Come on, please Bowe just retire disgracefully and stay away from the sport 8)

Apart from a prime Holyfield, twice. Thats not bad. Wish Lewis had beat someone better.
Was one of my favorite fighters in the 90's and wish more could keep hold of their money and stay away.

Anyone who thinks Bowe should be allowed to fight is either stupid or sick!!!... the man has chronic braindamage and there is a real risk of a fatality if he faces one of the top heavyweights.... take a look at Greg Page if you want to see what could happen to Bowe!....

I didn't think Greg Page was slurring or had signs of Brain Damage BEFORE his near fateful fight (I hope is recovery is going well). I think Bowe is more at risk than Page was.
Having said that, if Bowe passes a medical (which I believe will be extensive and thorough and not money orientated) then he should be allowed. I haven't heard Bowe in the last few years, admittedly I was worried immediately after the Golota fight (in which I could hadly understand him). However, reports of Bowe's current health have been mixed, some have said he sounds a clear as a whistle.

I agree. Bowe recently dropped a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Rock Newman because he had no hope of winning. Newman stated when the lawsuit was announced, "Someone is using and abusing Bowe and the legal claims stand logic on its head."
Bowe seems to be boxing because others see him as a meal ticket. It's sad.

There was an interesting article on Bowe in the OSM when he was still in prison,

Just look at the record of the last person he beat...unbelievable
His record was terrible 10yrs ago....could be close for Bowe if all whats been said about him is true.

That's a great article. IIRC, I read it in Goodbody's, with a stinking hangover, whilst tucking into a full Irish breakfast. Which will probably only mean anything to me and J-C, but still...
Bowe, in his prime, was a fantastic fighter, and one of my favourites. I can't help but think that this return is detined to end in tragedy.

Spreadking - there is a massive difference between saying Bowe should notfight again and being a Bowe hater.
I would like him to stay retired - is there anyone on here with an ounce of compassion that doesn't feel the same. As a social liberal however, I fully respect he should have the right to do whatever he wants, provided that he is of free mind and capable of being licensed - the fact that he only sought to get a licence in such an obscure jurisdiction arouses suspicion and sadness.
