"De La Hoya: Canelo and Golovkin will fight at 160 pounds"
“Let’s just say this is a real, true middleweight fight at 160 pounds,” said De La Hoya in an interview with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman.
“Both guys will fight in 10-ounce gloves. You know, there’s no rehydration, weight-class clause and all this B.S. and this and that. It’s a true middleweight fight at 160 pounds. And that’s it.”
"Floyd Mayweather should fight winner of GGG vs Canelo instead of Conor McGregor says Oscar De La Hoya"
Golden Boy Promotions founder Oscar De La Hoya believes if Floyd Mayweather is to come out of retirement, it should be in a boxing fight with either Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin or Saul "Canelo" Alvarez instead of Conor McGregor.
"Look, even Floyd...after this fight with Canelo and Golovkin, forget about 'The Notorious' one," he added. "Forget about a fighter who has zero experience, who has zero fights, who has zero amateur experience, forget about that! Mayweather's better than that."
"Mayweather, look, if you want to fight and have a rematch against Canelo or a fight against Golovkin, go after them. After Canelo and Golovkin fight, go after the winner."
Thoughts?

I don't think GGG would agree to a catchweight, so I'm not shocked.

Nice, catchweights are annoying most of the time.

Fight break down
Canelo strengths
- power
- strong
- size (not always but often bigger than his opponents)
- chin
Weaknesses
- vs movers. Mayweather and to a lesser degree Lara gave him big problems.
GGG
Strengths
- power
- cutting down the ring/footwork
- intensity
Weaknesses
- head movement (though the lack of this means he is in the stronger position to fire back more often)
- vs movers? Jacobs showed on the back foot it was difficult
- open to the upper cut?
Broadly speaking they have strengths and weakness in similar areas. Though there are subtle differences in there boxing that makes them different. Canelo has never yielded to a strong come forward guy, likewise ggg. It's a fasinating match up.
I believe that golovkin strengths are marginally stronger than canelos strengths. So if it became a fire fight, I think canelo is slightly out gunned and the fight would favour golovkin. Meaning we're gonna have to see something different in the canelo tactics. He'll have to choose when it's right to trade, but has to also show us his boxing off the back foot to win this fight. I don't think he can out gun ggg just front foot boxing.
Begs the question, does canelo have the boxing brain to pick and choose his moments, or will he go into macho mode and have a fight at all costs.
If he does have that IQ, is his fighting off the back foot good enough to give him the break he needs to stop him getting over ran?
To me both them questions are hugely debatable. I really think he can be dragged into a war quite easily, and even if he doesn't, I'm not confident he is quick or slick enough to stop the onslaught.
This will be a really tough fight for either man to win. But I expect the war wounds to wear canelo down before ggg after 6 or 7 or 8. And the late rounds are going to be very tough.
I'm not comparing the fighters like for like, but kinda like glove loaded Margarito vs cotton in the first fight, though the first 6 will be much more even not like cotton just picking up round after round.

I think GGG late. Think it'll be a cracker though.

Will you give your ears to see it? Ears for Canelo beating Golovkin, arms for Degale beating GGG, and perhaps legs for Lara doing it?

You also said that Degale would beat GGG if they fought, and that you'd give your arm to see it. Seems like you've got the loss of ears on your mind now though!

I think it is more of public pressure that helped make this fight, and doing the fight at 157 or 158 would be another bad look on Goldenboy and Canelo. It was the same public pressure that finally gave us Canelo vs Trout and Lara. DLH drug his feet big time to not make those fights. Style wise they were bad for Canelo, the same as Charlo and Andrade would be imo. GGG stylewise is much better for Canelo. They are are just hoping GGG has slid enough so they can win. I hope GGG KO's the arrogant sob.

This is not about Mayweather... If Mayweather wanted a tough fight he wouldn't have fought Andre Berto in 2015... This fight stands on it's own as a massive attraction... Shut up about Mayweather because Canelo isn't the 22-year-old kid who signed to fight Mayweather at 152 and almost fainted at the weigh-in... Canelo was so weak he could hardly move, but held Floyd to a MD...
This will be a fully mature 27-year-old Middleweight who is 49-1...fighting the greatest Middleweight of all time.

It wasn't really a majority decision though Kalan. It was a wide points win for Mayweather. That card was ridiculous and probably corrupt.
Although sometimes I wonder if some of Mayweather's later fights were on the level but that's a different topic.

Yeah Canelo didn't win a single round against Mayweather

I would be shocked if he does.
Question: if neither does the IBF next day weigh in, does GGG lose the IBF belt?

Not if GGG asks the IBF for permission to engage in a non-title bout against Canelo (therefore, the IBF won't be sanctioning the fight).

IBF may not grant such permission and say that if it is not a title fight, then Golovkin has to fight a mandatory which he hasn't done since the Wade fight.

GGG doesn’t actually have a mandatory challenger for his IBF belt yet.
Whilst Tureano Johnson may be the IBF’s top-rated 160lb-er, he isn’t GGG’s mandatory challenger. In January, he rejected an opportunity to face GGG due to injury.
The winner of the bout between Tureano Johnson and Sergiy Derevyanchenko will determine GGG’s mandatory challenger for the IBF strap.

i cant wait for this. if it happens. i seriously doubt team ginger chick has the balls to fight golovkin. if it happens, ginger chick will either fold after a round or two in the corner or get ktfo within 5 rounds. a schooling that will rock the world is about to happem golovkins skills are lightyears beyond gingers. and he has both integrity and pride and respect for himself, the sport and his opponenets. gingerchicken poseses none of that. at all.
and he will get his ass handed to him big time.
