"Chavez Jr. Ready: Bring on Daniel Jacobs at 168, He Beat Golovkin!"

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-3-1, 32 KOs) is not even think about the possibility of retirement.

And Daniel Jacobs (32-2-, 29 KOs) is now the top candidate that Chavez Jr. wants to face in September or October.

"I think Jacobs beat Gennady Golovkin, so it would be a good fight, to beat him and win another fight could land me the winner of Canelo and Golovkin, I know things could be better under other conditions. I think [Jacobs] beat GGG and at 168 pounds I want to prove that it's my weight, that Saturday was a bad night, they have to understand that I made a sacrifice, it was a million dollars penalty [for every pound over the contract limit] and they (Canelo and Golden Boy) knew what it was going to cost me and they knew that I would leave everything on the scale. I risked it and it was difficult."

Thoughts?

Jacobs destroys Chavez Jr at any weight.

Somebody fill that boy with frijoles and tamales quick so we don't have to hear from him again.

I don't think too many people would give a sh*t to see him again after the non-effort he gave against Canelo, but if he wants to be Jacobs' punching bag next time out whatever.

I think most all of us would prefer to see Jacobs vs Lemieux or someone like that instead though. Chavez Jr. certainly doesn't belong in the mix anymore, he hasn't had an impressive or meaningful victory in quite a long while, and all of his losses for the most part have been one sided.

I doubt Jr can still bring good money to the table after that performance. Why else would Jacobs fight him?

If he wants to prove 168 lbs. is his weight, why not fight Gilberto Ramirez?

Because it'd be an easy win over a recognizable name, and the money would still probably be better to fight Chavez Jr. than it would be to fight most any other fighter in and around that weight range.

Chavez Jr. is better off fighting other Juniors. Or Son's of other boxing figures. Jr. could fight someone like Buddy McGirt Jr. at 168. Battle of the Juniors.

Apparently he is. He's scheduled to fight on June 23rd. I almost mentioned Pryor's son as well, the reason I didn't is because I wasn't sure he was still active.

Chavez Jr. can still have a long and active career like the Jorge Paez Jr's. Just not on elite or championship level. 8 or 10 rounders Chavez Jr. can still make a living. No doubt Chavez Jr. can still headline smaller shows.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised to see him go the Yory Boy Campas route where he just keeps on fighting no hopers and piling up wins on small cards.

The same way as Canelo, Zurdo doesn't have enough power to stop Jr. It would be another 120:108 decision. Steve Kim asked Arum is JCCJ is an option for Zurdo, and Bob's response was of a kind Steve couldn't quote.

Chavez needs to retire or learn how to box... He's a punching bag.
