Gervonta Davis Makes Weight on Third Try for Walsh Fight

Gervonta Davis was overweight twice Friday in London for his first defense of the IBF super featherweight title.

The third time was the charm, though. On his third trip to the British Boxing Board of Control scale, Davis weighed in at exactly the 130-pound limit for his fight Saturday against Liam Walsh.

Baltimore's Davis (17-0, 16 KOs) was two ounces overweight on his first trip to the digital scale, even after taking off his underwear and trying again. He had two full hours to come back to the BBBC scale to meet the 130-pound limit for the fight.

He didn't use all of the alloted time, apparently because he thought he would make weight the second time. Davis still didn't meet the 130-pound limit and seemed stunned by the result on the scale.

In an odd scene, an official on the stage even used a towel to wipe all of the moisture off of Davis' body to try to help him make 130 pounds. Not even that worked on what technically was his fourth attempt to make weight Friday afternoon.

England's Walsh (21-0, 14 KOs) made weight on his first try Friday. The unbeaten southpaw, Davis' mandatory challenger, weighed in at exactly 130 pounds.
