"Floyd Mayweather: Davis, Jack belong on undercard of potential McGregor bout"

"If me and Conor McGregor get in the ring, and I believe it will happen, I'd love to have Gervonta Davis on the undercard. I would also like Badou Jack to be on the undercard," Mayweather said Saturday at the Copper Box Arena in London.

Mayweather (49-0, 26 KOs), 40, has not fought since easily outpointing Andre Berto in September 2015 and then retiring, but he has said he would exit retirement for only one fight -- the big one against McGregor, who very much wants the fight also and would face Mayweather in his first boxing match.

"I had a great career, and my career may not be over," Mayweather said. "No. 50 may be against Conor McGregor, but we'll just have to wait and see."

Last week, McGregor, 28, applied for a boxing license in Nevada, where the match with Mayweather likely would be held, although there is no set date yet.

UFC president Dana White has said he hopes to meet with Al Haymon, Mayweather's adviser, this week to discuss terms for the bout. White and McGregor (21-3) have already come to terms on their end of a fight, for which Mayweather is an overwhelming favorite. Still, the bout is expected to generate millions of pay-per-view buys.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

In my personal opinion, I sincerely believe that the PPV buys for the Mayweather-McGregor novelty event will be seriously astronomical, because it should attract many of those that willingly parted with their hard-earned cash in order to watch Floyd’s fight against Manny Pacquiao, as well as the UFC die-hards.

Whilst I appreciate that the UFC & boxing will have a certain amount of common fans that willingly pay to watch both sports, a bit like the overlapping circles of a Venn diagram, I would still expect the paying audience for the Mayweather-McGregor event to be huge… to the point that it will at least be considered as the second best selling PPV sporting event in history, which will surely benefit both combat sports.

One thing we know for sure, this will be the very first PPV event whereby Floyd Mayweather Jr. won’t be “carrying” the entire promotion, because Conor McGregor works incredibly hard to theatrically market his fights in a similar trash-talking manner to what Money May does.

The build-up will be a lot of fun to watch if you’re one of those guys, like me, that likes to see boxing events promoted properly to the point where even the mainstream public will start paying attention to all of the commotion.

One final note, I can only imagine that an awful lot of fighters would like to participate on the undercard of the Mayweather-McGregor novelty event in order to gain mainstream exposure, regardless of the purse size, since they'd be investing in their own future. It would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many of them to greatly enhance their popularity, which could improve their future paydays in the long-term.

Thoughts?

I'm sure I will find out the result if the fight goes ahead, but no way is that Money weather getting another cent from me.

Jack v Clev and Davis v Loma on the card and I'll consider buying it! I'm not paying to watch Floyd slap McGregor around in a glorified sparring session.

It would be awesome if they could do a UFC/Boxing card for the Mayweather/McGregor event. Bellator did it with kickboxing/MMA. Had two separate rings in the arena.

Yeah it could help get fans from one to the over.

Just make sure Malik Scott Vs Kevin Johnson isn't on the undercard.
