Darren Corbett looks set to face Matthew Barney for the vacant WBF light-heavyweight title on September 4 at the Ulster Hall in Belfast.
It had been thought the Ukraine's Konstanin "Knuckleduster" Shvets would face Corbett, but promoter Paul McCausland revealed no contract had been returned.
So McCausland has turned to Barney.

Does this mean if Barney wins he will be a two belt world champion, and then go onto unifying the division, WBF, WBU, IBO ETC.

i assume we wont be watching this as it's on Saturday. If any boxing is going to be shown on that date (which is unlikely with Sky's new schedule) then surely it will be Johnny Nelson's WBO title defence against Rudiger May...i dont think these 2 thrillers will quite match up to the fireworks we will see the next week.

Matchroom have dumped Corbett.

That Nelson vs May fight will be the worst fight in the history of boxing. May only has one punch, the jab, and he's incredibly negative.

Well.... if Barney wins I think he can hold the legit claim to being the true light heavyweight world champion.

I don't think Antonio Tarver could live with him personally. I hope Barney calls him out after the fight. I man what has Tarver done? Beat Roy Jones Jnr....so what.

As if Jones Jnr could have dealt with Tony Oakey!

Matthew Barney ...excitement, power, aggression, explosiveness, speed ...he has it all. What a true champion he will prove to be!

Give Barney a break. Sure he's not Jake LaMotta, but he can box and is awkward as hell and has no freebies because of this.

And he appears quite prepared to fight anyone.

I hope he beats Corbett and continues his unspectacular BUT EFFECTIVE career.

Wasn't Barney originally scheduled to fight on the Haye vs Thompson undercard?

12 rounds of Nelson and May both backpedalling around the ring away from each other.... cant wait.

Contrary to recent internet reports, WBU light-heavyweight champion Matthew Barney will not be fighting Darren Corbett at the Ulster Hall in Belfast on September 4.
Jim Evans from the Fight Academy, who promotes Barney, contacted SecondsOut.com to say: "I don't understand where these reports come from (they came from David Kelly and the Belfast Telegraph, Jim).
"Corbett's people were told over a week ago that Matthew was not going to be available."
Instead Barney fights on the big Fight Academy card at Wembley Arena on September 10.
