I have not followed Vasyl Lomachenkos career at all i admit.. i see he is basically high on all the p4p rankings with only 9 pro fights. i have watched some of his highlights and yes he looks great!!! My question is how was he able to get a world title fight in just his 2nd pro fight?? i know his amateur pedigree is like perfect and all but do you guys think its fair that he got a world title shot in only his 2nd pro fight?? again i know hes awesome i mean he beat gary russell who i think is like an absolute beast and made it look easy but i just dont understand why he got that shot so early in his pro career without really "putting his dues" in. Can someone school me on Vasyl Lomachenko please? thanks fellas

The dues? As long as youre in the top 15 you're eligible for a shot, and he got that ranking by debuting with a stoppage of a 25-3 WBO regional champ.
It's very common to get a world ranking for beating that type of opponent, even for guys without Loma's backing or amateur pedigree. Fighting and beating such opposition in one's debut is far less common

Thank you for your answer. are you ok with a pro fighter getting a world title shot in his 2nd pro fight? i think that bothers me a little bit for whatever reason.

I hate questions like this. You are polite, but I have to say do the research yourself if you are interested. A boxing forum isn't a place to learn about boxing from the get-go. I have a feeling you want some attention. You will get plenty of it here, but may not like it.
Lomo is good.

Loma is exceptional. I don't know what other boxer could have a close fight with a super-tough overweight opponent allowed to fight dirty like Salido.

On the contrary. If people are friendly and helpful a Boxing forum can and should be the perfect place to learn about Boxing.

It's definitely not something you see every day a fighter getting a title shot in his 2nd fight, but then again. It ain't every day that you see a 2x Gold Medalist with an amateur record of 396-1 or something absolutely ridiculous like that.
You can make a very serious case that Vasyl Lomacheko is one of the best amateur boxers of all time. I mean nearly 400 fights and he won almost every single one...the one loss on his record was twice avenged. That's an incredible feat.
He was also given the Val Barker trophy as the best Boxer in the Olympic Games in one of his Gold Medal wins.
It's definitely not standard for a fighter to get a title shot in his 2nd fight, but Vasyl Lomachenko is a bright and shining exception to the rule. He has already paid his dues by having one of the most outstanding amateur pedigrees of all time, and has already more than proven his worthiness at having received the shot.

....Hyun Mi Choi says hi ;)
Several fighters have debuted in world title fights (hey Arturo Mayan!) Difference is that Lomachenko was world class when he signed professional papers, very very very few are. I like seeing fighters fast tracked (Inoue, Tanaka, Ioka) shows they don't want to waste time like so many fighters have done

Pete Rademacher debuted against Floyd Patterson in a World Tile Fight after winning an Olympic Gold Medal in 1956... After 79 amateur fights he came home with the Gold and said... "I believe I'm the best boxer in the world and I want to prove it by fighting Floyd Patterson." ... Patterson said "I'll fight him."
Floyd said words to the effect -- I'm not quoting him exactly but what I remember -- "I also won an Olympic Gold Medal and I didn't fight for a World Title in my first professional fight because amateur fights are 3 rounds. I fought 4 rounders, 6 rounders, 8 rounders 10 rounders, 12 round fights. Before I was ready for a title fight I had more than 30 professional fights. I put years in learning my job. When we get to the 6th, 7th, 11th, and 13th rounds how is Pete going to feel? I'm not giving him advice, but I remember my first 12-round fight. I don't think he's going to be there."
The fight is on youtube.. Rademacher did really well for the first 2 rounds. He won them big. He hurt Patterson in the 2nd and floored him hard. But by the end of the 3rd he was getting tired.. From there to the 6th round he was knocked down 7 times and knocked out.. In his 2nd professional fight Rademacher didn't take a step back. He fought Zora Folley who was better than Patterson. He got knocked down 4 times and stopped in 4. By that time his chin was pretty much wrecked and he only fought 23 pro fights in total. Every time he stepped up the comp he got knocked out.
Not exactly a Lomachenko in skills.

You can easily get a world title shot if you beat an international champion and have the right connections who are pushing for you to get a shot. Although, I'm not sure if a fighter should necessarily get a shot at an international championship in his professional debut. As far as the politics of ABC rankings, I would have preferred that Lomachenko fought one non-title pro fight before getting a shot at Ramirez for the international WBO belt. I.e. something on record for the WBO to base their title sanctioning on.

This is a pro boxing, rating is secondary. If public and both sides wants a fight it will happen. Rating is only relevant for mandatory defenses. That was not a a mandatory defense.

According to Merriam-Webster the definition of forum is: a public meeting place for open discussion or lecture involving audience discussion, coming from the Roman word meaning such definition.
So you're open to come and ask suffolkbull3, here is a place turned to this, learn and discuss.
And as far as I know, a boxer can try to set a match vs a top boxer of a specific boxing Corp/Boxing Core (WBA,WBC ect) ranked between 10 best, then if winning and closer to the first places he can try to set a match vs the champion.
The recent I knew (a case in Japan) is that great prospect Kosei Tanaka had a "B" class license pro boxer thus allowing him fight much better and skilled boxers to fight vs champion faster (as Loma did). I think that if this really exists, then can be the case of Loma.

Japanese licenses are a unique JBC thing. They have a 3 tier tier licensing situation which limits the rounds a fighter can fight. It's only the JBC that do it. Most half decent Japanese amateurs get B licenses, allowing them to fight in 6 rounders straight away (Inoue being an ultra rare exception of a B class license debut in an 8 rounder)

There are only 3 ranked active girls in that weight class, but that's limited to South Korea... Change it to "Asia" or "World", and you will see plenty more...

My question is how was he able to get a world title fight in just his 2nd pro fight??
Vasyl Lomachenko was a two-time Olympic champion, a two-time world champion in the amateur ranks and was deemed by the American media as one of the sports’ greatest amateur boxers in history.
The Ukrainian’s first opponent, Jose Ramirez, was not only a fellow Top Rank stablemate, but he also held the WBO International featherweight title, which granted the Ukrainian a top-fifteen world ranking when he defeated his opponent and also technically made him a sanctioned/qualified world title contender.
When Lomachenko turned pro, he was approaching 26 years of age, which is pretty mature for a featherweight fighter, as the smaller men tend to have short careers. And Bob Arum had to contractually-agree to provide Vasyl a world-title opportunity in his second professional fight when the Ukrainian signed his contract to join Top Rank’s stable of fighters.
Fortunately for Bob Arum, he had maintained a close relationship with the WBO and was very influential over that organisation, due to the fact that its credibility was being maintained and retained a fairly high-profile status due to the fact that their most prestigious world champion was Manny Pacquiao (a dead-cert first ballot Hall-of-Famer and also an all-time-great).
Of course, the Filipino legend is also a Top Rank fighter promoted by Bob Arum, which helped Lomachenko to jump the queue to challenge for Orlando Salido’s world title.
The thing is… in order to motivate a world champion to take such a huge risk with his career (to compensate him for potentially losing to a “novice”), Top Rank was able to offer Orlando Salido a very lucrative payday, which was partially funded by HBO’s money when Lomachenko faced the WBO world champion on the undercard of the Chavez Jr.-Vera main event.
