Usyk is Hoping To Eventually Fight Anthony Joshua

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

WBO cruiserweight champion Aleksandr Usyk (12-0, 10 KOs) admits that he's eventually heading up to the heavyweight division to capture another world title.

Both Joshua and Usyk won gold medals at the 2012 Olympic games in London - Usyk at heavyweight and Joshua at super heavyweight. Usyk also won bronze and gold at the 2009 and 2011 World Championships respectively, all in the heavyweight division.

Usyk, 30-years-old, does not want Joshua for the purpose of avenging close friend and promoter Wladimir, but he does want to face him in the next few years.

The cruiserweight champ is looking to make a few more defenses and he's very motivated to unify what is a loaded weight class with a lot of talent. Once those goals are achieved, he wants to head up in weight - and is Joshua is still the heavyweight kingpin, Usyk wants that fight.

"I'm not going to do it for revenge [over Wladimir's defeat], but I do want to fight [Joshua]. I'll be at heavyweight within three years," Usyk said.

I think he could at max become a top 5 ish heavyweight, not the rank 1, top 5 is his limit.

They are both top drawer fighters but other things being equal, a good biggun will normally beat a good little'un. I know Usyk is 6'3" and has competed at the heavier weight. No doubt he could add weight as Davld Haye did for example, but the man has a frame that can comfortably make the 200lb limit - what's the lowest Joshua could boil down to yet remain effective?

AJ has a 3" height advantage too and in 3 years would be 30 to Usyk's 33. Neither of these factors need make any difference necessarily, but if they did it would be to AJ's advantage not Usyk's.

I think Usyk can be a serious contender among the dreadnoughts though, but that wasn't the question.

Usyk has a good frame for CW, if this was the 80's then he would have a good frame for HW..

I think he could get unto 220 pounds.. I'm not sure what he walks around..

He might be a better boxer today, but 3 years is a long time, and AJ will have had at least 5-6 fights by then (unless injured), and he will get better and better each time.. AJ's frame, gives him the advantage, as he can pound the pressure against a smaller Usyk.

I guess only time will tell.

Joshua has huge physical advantages

I fully expect him to bully and stop Usyk

I voted for unsure. Usyk has a good chin, good stamina, and is a southpaw.

Joshua showed stamina related issues vs. a much older Klitschko.

If Usyk can make it into the later rounds, an upset is possible.

Usyk beats Joshua. Even if he loses at cruiserweight, he'd have a lot more success at HW. Cruiserweight is a lot deeper talented than HW.

..to make an educated guess, I still have to see Usyk beat a HW with a pulse...

Physicly way to inferior. Techniquly usyk better than aj, but aj is just so much bigger, stronger.

He's fought and beat big guys in the WSB. AJ gets outboxed.

He's fought big guys in WSB. The experience he got there is a lot better than beating dudes like Kingpin Johnson and Charles Martin at HW.

I think Usyk is just too small for a modern heavyweight.

Usky moving up or him beating Joshua? Usyk beat 6'6" Joyce in WSB. He can handle big fighters.

Some people are under the crazy impression that Joshua and Klitschko are better at boxing than Joyce. Which is ridiculous, I know, because Joyce is considered a consensus top 10 all-time professional heavyweight. No wait, I'm thinking of Wladimir Klitschko, the guy that Joshua just beat.

Yeah, Joshua struggled with an old-as-dirt Klitschko who is one his way out. The fact that Klitschko was still a top 5 fighter after facing a one-sided defeat to Fury shows you how lackluster the division is. The HW division is way less talented than cruiserweight, and Usyk will clean it out.

He will move up, and I honestly would rate him cleaning out cruiserweight a lot higher than if he were to clean out HW. Cruiserweight is stacked, and probably in the top 3 best divisions currently.

He'll have an easier time at heavyweight than cruiserweight. Cruiserweight is stacked with monsters like Kudryashov, Briedis, Lebedev, and Gassiev.

I think he's good, but Joshua and the cruisers is a complete different game. World of difference.

Cruisers an ok division, its very good by its usual standards, but I think you're over cooking it

No, I'm probably underrating it. Stacked top to bottom with talent, and I said cruiserweight is different from heavyweight. Crusierweight is a lot tougher.
