Cinco de mayo is classic. Mexican love boxing and the big superstars like canelo, hoya etc. want that date. Beside that one?

Mexican Independence Day > September 16

That's why GGG-Canelo is happening then!! :box:

In Mexico September 16 is MUCH bigger than Cinco de Mayo, which is celebrated primarily in the US on May5!!

Don't you think that around super bowl people might have already spent a ton of money on flights, hotels, tickets and so on?

I'm very new to Football and don't know all the hype around it, but in Sweden (where i live) when it's getting closer to some soccer finals it seeams like noone have time to think about anything else the weeks leading up to it. thought if it was the same in the states.

They used to usually be during the week.monday night superfights. That was the best. Obviously not Monday during football, but almost never on Saturday night.

It wasn't just Mondays, just mainly weekdays for the superfights and Saturday and Sunday afternoon for the good/great fights. It was gradual with HBO's involvement and I would venture a guess that as the casino's paid larger site fees they pushed it to where they could have more visitors. I think the iconic caesers palace parking lot maxed out at like 4k fans.

In recent years the biggest ones are the Mexican holidays. Aside from Cinco de Mayo the next BIG ONE is Mexican Independence Day which is in mid September.

With the Mexican-American fight fans being the biggest market for Boxing in the U.S. by far these dates have become THE dates for major Boxing shows.

Doesn't make much difference anymore. Any date will be going up against a more popular sport.

Just heard a sports radio talk show host make a great observation about the August 26 date for Floyd-McG.

Little competition from other American sports: NFL and College Football start early September. Baseball is over a month away from their playoffs plus NBA and NHL are both in off-season.

I think stuff like this only matters if you are showcasing boxing on free television. People make these excuses, but I think if a boxer had fans they'd show up regardless.
