Confused keep seeing posts on social media of WC boxers claiming to be fighting for WBU titles

Seen another so called world title fight WBU at a leisure centre. Someone please explain why people believe this is the real deal. Sad ole day for boxing. The AMs and real PROs. This is white collar not semi pro. I don’t get it at all.

I think it’s a ridiculous if I’m honest. Semi pro what is that ? Either pro or not in my book. The one advertised this weekend in Kent marked as a world title was the poorest fight I’ve ever seen (plastered on social media) clearly followed by a diluded crowd.

I'm not even sure which WBU this is, i think it's the German one. There's an American WBU run by the chap who also owns the IBU and also the former business partner of Jon Robinson claims to still own the rights to the WBU name whilst BIBA/MBC think they own the rights and continue to use it on their shows.

I don't get the appeal but there seem to be four parties who think they own the original WBU.

Someone will get hurt. Hardly in there prime and the smaller of the two honestly thinks he is a super star idiots likening the WBU title to Roberto Duran and other legends. Don’t they get it? Since when do world title fights get hosted in a sports hall in Kent! and guessing there weights (around 62-70kg ) would like to see them in the ring with the real world title holders. Semi pro? No such thing

The WBU title never carried much weight anyway. Let the White collar tough guy wannabes have it.

Not great role models for the youngsters training hard in the AM clubs aspiring to be great fighters. Should be exposed as a dangerous scam

Most people that follow Boxing don't take 'em too seriously. I doubt many aspiring great fighters wouldn't see these guys as role models.

Yes your right however it’s growing and the lure of a quick buck is clearly appealing and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. As I think it’s a stain on the noble sport

It is a white collar title now, it hasn't been respected as a world body for years and really it's just a belt that small shows can use to help promote their events and then hand a belt to their main event fighters.

Saying that white collar is dangerous though, i'd have to disagree. Having been to a few of the white collar shows in the UK now, the sport of 'white collar boxing' or 'Semi-pro' boxing is getting safer and better as the years go on.
When the sport is growing, when you have organisations like the UWCB, UCB, Queensbury boxing league, Golden gloves boxing league, the EBF and various others now who actually take safety and fairness into greater consideration then I've seen at a few professional shows. People are going to get behind it.

It's also gives a good set up for a few of the former amateurs who end up falling out of the sport because of one reason or another that they get disillusioned with the sport and instead of giving it up all together they have another avenue and could still turn professional and make a name for themselves.

I get the possible opportunity it gives ex AM boxers but..... After seeing some of the clearly very unfit individuals that are stepping between the ropes I do think it’s a game of Russian roulette with regards to serious injury. Some organisations probably are better than others but from what I’ve seen it’s not great quality overall and the belts are a bit Micky mouse,not my cup of tea tbh
