Usyk vs. Ward

I know it is a long shot this fight ever happens, but considering that Virgil Hunter is saying that Ward could fight Joshua, Ward - Usyk seems like a more likely fight to happen at Cruiserweight. That would be a technical match-up of a the highest caliber. Ward is the best LH and Usyk the best Cruiserweight.
Who do you think would win?

Virgil Hunter said he could fight Joshua? Motherf*cker must've just invented some power new hallucinogen or something.
Usyk vs Ward would be interesting, but frankly there's no reason for Ward to leave 175. Light Heavyweight is deep right now and there are several interesting challengers out there.
Stevenson, Beterbiev, Bivol, Gvozdyk, Eleider Alvarez, Joe Smith Jr.
Deserving challengers one and all.

Is this the Usyk I've been told is the greatest cruiserweight ever?
There should be a 30+ (age) section of this forum.
Really need to stop arguing boxing with guys whose boxing universe started with Manny's big bang.
BANG BANG BANG BANG come get some BANG BANG

Although he came away with wins against Kov (Kov won the first for me), the latter did very well against him when they were boxing at a distance, and Ward relied mainly on an inside game for success. I think he'd find it much more difficult to smother and bully a top guy who is much bigger naturally than him, and while Usyk isn't a major puncher I don't doubt that he'd be able to jar a smaller guy like Ward.

Just depends on how deeply guys get into the sport I guess. I didn't start following the sport until late 2001, but I've dug deep into the sports history, read a sh*t load of Boxing books, a sh*t load of Ring magazines, and watched a sh*t load of fight films so I have an extensive knowledge of the sport prior to my fandom.
I would suggest anybody that has serious interest in the sport do the same...either that or don't take part in conversations about past fighters where you don't know what the hell you're talking about.

Holyfield is still widely regarded as the greatest CW of all-time from what I've seen. Some may regard Usyk as the greatest ever, but I suspect that would very much be a minority opinion.
Certain people get too worked up about innocuous beliefs that are held by relatively few; it's like they focus on these just so they can moan their hearts out.

It's still debatable whether or not Usyk is even the best right now, let alone the best ever.

I agree
Thing is, for pretty much any argument you can construct, you'll be able to find someone who agrees with it. Nothing worth being a bad intentioned baby about

I am not sold on Usyk, so I can't make a call on this one. I would pick Gassiev over Ward.

I think it is way too early for people to say Usyk is the best cruiserweight ever. He needs to at least beat all the best in the division/unify the titles.

You are right because I'm not too different from you. (good reason)
But some of these dudes are a special kind of special.

Usyk murders this guy... It's not even a fight... Unless of course Ward wins on his famous testes shot.
Ward is full of himself because he was awarded the 2 Kovalev fights.. He wasn't ahead of Kovalev in either fight at any time on my cards.. In Boxing you have rules. If the referee isn't going to call fouls because he's agreed to let you get away with murder -- and announces that you won on a foul blow... that is something the Boxing Commission needs to address... If they don't address it they're as dirty and corrupt as Feldman, Moretti, and Weeks.

I doubt it. Usyk is much bigger and has handily beaten world champion and Olympic runner-up SHWs. He also doesnt have Kovalev's history of gassing and pretty much always grows stronger as the rounds progress.
I think Usyk probably also beats Kov convincingly in one try.

Id actually be curious to hear the case for Ward grinding down a skilled, far bigger opponent like Usyk. Ward is a great fighter, but I think he'd be moving past his optimal weight, which is a bigger problem for smother and bully styles.

Crusader, take off the Adam West cape and recognize the satire.

Huh? My last comment wasnt about you.
Ward is very good and I assume that some people would predict a win for him. I think relying on physicality in close makes going up to beat elite CWs tougher, but maybe he could do it.

I do not think that he could handle the current crop of Cruisers. He will have his hands full with the LHWs if he does not retire.

Ya, there are some interesting fights still out there for Ward.
How do people think a convincing win over SOG would impact Usyk's standing at cruiser? Is it an impressive win, or would it sort of be like GGG beating Thurman?

I think both of those wins would be impressive.
