6.2 million people tuned in to BBC2 to watch Amir Khan win an Olympic medal yesterday evening.

Doubt they are slashing their wrists, if Khan stays Amatuer, they get boxing coverage people want to watch for virtually FA.

If anything it underlines, they were right all along.

yeah, it got a lot of coverage. They showed the whole fight again (not that it was that long) after being bombarded with emails, it was at the top of the Olympic news, amd they ended a couple of the athletics shows with images of Khan winning.

anyone know how many tuned in for Audley's final back in 2000?

The thing is, Khan will only get those figures as an amateur at the olympics, people tune in to watch the olympics the same as they do the world cup, European footie etc.

It attracts people to boxing and rowing and the like who normally wouldn't watch it at all.

As an amateur Khan will be invisible until the next olympics. As a professional on the BBC he would be HUGE, provided they didn't make the same mistakes they made with Audley.

Not sure how many set their alarm clocks for 5am that morning but Khan should blitz that figure if he makes it to Sundays final.

he beat the Uzbek who lost to Povetkin the other day. i only saw it again the other day and was surprised at how good Audley looked

I remembered it as a Kazakh also but it's easy to forget where Audley's opponents are from.

I think I may now the identity of this shadowy figure of which you speak....

Every now and again a shadow appears in my e mail account and a gruff voice informs me or passes on information or occasionally criticises me Then with a puff of smoke he disappears as quickly as he arrived.
