ward - kovalev: aftermath

the gif of the final low blow is all over
the board. what is interesting is that
seconds after that punch, the referee
enters the frame from the left, which
means he almost had the exact same
angle of view as the camera.
there is no way to deny that this was
a low blow. there is no way to deny
the referee must have seen it. if there
was ever a case of a fight to be brought
in front of an appeals board it is this
one and i cannot see which line of
argument the ward side could make.
neither can they claim it was not low,
nor can they claim the ref didn't see it.
on a sidenote: i always loved max
kellerman, but his praise of andre as
the p4p god after this ending seemed
very unreal to me.

What makes it worse is Ward had already been warned twice for low blows.
In my view, this has the potential to kill boxing once for all; USA is the country where boxing thrives the most; should the decision stand, it will send a message to all other countries that everything goes; champions will start taking the rules under their own hands and call it payback.
And who would blame them?
Loma a few years ago; now Kovalev.
Welcome to the USA!
The whole HBO crew needs to go to hell. Fire all of them.
They were just as disgusting as what Ward and Weeks did, if not more.

did anyone pay attention with how much power he deliberately hits Kovalev? it's unreal..they also say there were two more low blows in the same round, I still have to find the footage..

That's the clincher.
It shows Ward's depravity; one would think being warned twice would make him aware. He just committed assault in the ring, and the whole world is applauding him for it.
The guy showed what stuff he's always been made of.

Tanzidiot,
your love interest just killed his career.
This pair of title fights will define Ward for ever.

I'm a Kovalev fan but i just can't get upset over this fight because I just think that it was all academic when the questionable low blows happened. It was obvious to me that Kovalev was looking for any way to catch a breather. He stopped fighting multiple times and Ward didn't once hit him while he was in this posture. He should have but he didn't.
One punch was clearly low in the last exchange IMO. Just one and Kovalev was leaning over pulling Ward down which could also lead to a shot being low. When a boxer pulls another boxers head down, there's always a low blow as a result that the ref normally blames on the boxer for pulling the other down.
Kovalev clearly won the first fight and won 5 out of the 7 rounds in the rematch but he lost the fight. Clearly to me.

Are you really criticing how much power Ward used to try to stop Kovalev with?

Yeah it will define him.
He was the man at Super Middleweight, and now he's the man at Light Heavyweight.

You should watch the video again,Kovalev wasn't pulling down Wards head like you said although Kovalev was in big trouble.
I just watched 7th and 8th round again. What a great fight man even with the sketchy ending best fight I have seen this year.

If they ever fight again though the fight should be in like Beijing China or Mexico City that would be more fair.

i hear you. i for one believe ward was
winning the fight. they were about even
in the end, but ward was never in trouble
and was gaining the upper hand.
it was indeed the right hand, that put him
intro trouble and yet there is no justification
for a fight ending with a power low blow after
being warned with the ref having full sight
on it. there just isn't.

not unlikely. would be weird. as i
said, how can a fight end with a
power low blow next to the ref?
