And it's given us 14 years of 'Vitali actually won' debates

Great fight as well as historic, end of an era for Lewis, pity, I would've loved a rematch

Aye, what a fight that was. He went out with a bang did Lennox. I just assumed there would be a rematch after, but assumptions aren't always reliable.

Lennox knew he had been to the well enough times.

Anyone who thinks that fight should not have been stopped, knows nothing about boxing.

How was it? It seemed a really good atmosphere from the TV

It was. I was also on the Peruvian Marching Powder and drunk so I was happy enough.

Lots of whining after the fight. I remember one fat c*nt screaming "Lewis Sucks!" then he kicked a rubbish bin over and hurt his toe

Afterwards we drove down to Long Beach and I was refused booze in a restaurant because my British passport wasn't considered proper ID.

So the eight of us went elsewhere and spent over $400.

Next day I went back to work on the cruise ship.

People thought Lewis would do Klit easily because he'd beaten Tyson the year before and Klit had quit against Byrd.

I knew it would be a tough tough fight.

I think the consensus was that Vitali's chin came with a Made In Taiwan label and he would get starched like Wlad had done the year previous against Sanders. Lewis was definitely thinking that a bad chin runs in the family. Couple that with his quit job against Byrd and you can see why Steward and Lewis came up with the tactics of making it a war from the start. I think they figured Klitschko would capitulate inside 2 or 3 rounds.

When Lewis landed that uppercut around the 4th or 5th round it reverberated around the arena.

I knew then the end was near.

Something about British heavyweights, uppercuts and Klitschko's :OhYes:

Personally I thought it was Vitali taking it to Lewis that made it a war

I think it was both, neither one really wanted to take a backward step.

Lewis was the one pushing forward uncharacteristically. Steward was telling him to keep the pressure on. Lewis was more than capable of stinking out the joint and controlling Klitschko with the jab and long 1-2 all night. You could hear from what Steward was saying in the corner that they came for the KO. He probably would have fought more conservatively and moved more in the second fight, like he did in the second Rahman fight.
