What do you think would have happened if these two had fought to unify the lightweight titles in 1980.

Instead Sean O Grady fought Kenty and Watt fought Arguello.

Would have been a good fight I reckon.

I think Hilmer would do what Howard Davis jr wasn't able to do, and that defeat Jim Watt, albeit in a close decision to unify the title. He would then go on to beat Alexis Arguello, Gato Gonzalez, and Ray Mancini to set up a superfight with amateur nemesis Aaron Pryor.

I think a lot would depend on where this takes place. In front of a stadium full of well oiled Glaswegians I would fancy Watt.

Watt would try to get it in Scotland. That is the only way he would win. Davis jr got over there, and was never the same again.

Shame Ray Mancini didn't get to Watt. He would have killed him.

Do you think it was the weather here that ruined Davis jnr?

It was a combination of flaws in his style, desire, and, probably bad management and trainers.I was a big Davis Jr fan, but there are some things he had to admit were his own fault.

Watt was lucky he didn't have to face Pryor. He would have beaten Jim in Scotland, USA, Antartica, wherever.

I've never considered this matchup. I liked watching both of them fight.

Kenty wins this fight without question. He got out of boxing early due to eye problems I think, but at the top of his game he was terrific. Kronk's first world champion. While he was considered a boxer he was an offensive machine. He attacked his opponents with those fast hands and often they didn't know what hit them.

Watt was a gutsy fighter who had a decent run as champion. He got all he could out of his talent and retired after losing his title to Arguello. In hindsight it is remarkable that he went the distance with Arguello.
