* Before all I don't take their merit of trying to make life in this, consider the toughest both physically and mentally need sport. My view is that since you take the pro step you don't need to face poor opponents your whole career before taking a better one or taking a very good one in 1 shot (and lose), you step bit tougher each time. As far as I know the average until taking better opponents for a common average boxer is maximum 15 fights, ranging from 1st to 7th fights against poor opponents, then 8th to 14th bit better ones and 15th+ better opponents until take tougher ones to possible title shot opponents.

But Jesus Christ, after some research you see that there are some exceptions that really exceed 20 to 30 bouts (in Thailand is more frequent) and 80% bouts with very poor opponents, it is incredible that there are some undefeated boxers with very poor career records, some with very high KO %, very low ratings and most seem fear to face tougher opponents, mostly I suspect seem fearing losing their "0" between other possible variables.

A fighter who has a highly protected, undefeated record against all bums is called a bottomfeeder. We're talking actual bums, though, with boxrec ratings of 9 or less. Bottomfeeders are 100% useless to the sport. Only well-matched fights are worthy of any time, money, or attention. However, it should be expected that all decent prospects will take 15-25 easy fights before they bother with anything that forces them out of first gear. But the dudes who are 33-0, 41 years old, and have no plans of fighting a top 100 opponent are like... why are you trying so hard to pad your record if you never plan on cashing-in?

It's important to note that a fighter should never be judged in any way by whether he has an undefeated status, how many wins he has, or how many losses he has. Regardless of whether you are judging the fighter for good they are or how experienced they are, it never comes down to a raw counting of how many pro fights they have or how many wins / losses they have.

Gosh, it's like a neatherworld of freaky bottom feeders I never knew existed.

When you look at some of the venue's, like school halls and social clubs- they can't be making a living out of it?
I'm reading Journeymen right now, that is what I thought was the under belly of professional boxing. But this bottom feeder thing is new to me again.

I'd have to say with that, there are a lot of fighters, like Ortiz for example, who would love to step up, but simply get completely ignored.

There are many reasons for this: become a local hero, earn a living doing something you enjoy, never taking a beating and being the tough guy of your group of friends, etc etc etc. Take somebody from a small area and let him build up a 20 or 30 and 0 record. He earns money, he gives the area a little more status (being a pro athlete is a big deal to the average person, even though they don't necessarily follow), and he gets to live the fun part of the life while avoiding the realities of it. No need to cash in and get destroyed when you can make better-than-construction-worker-or-bouncer-money being the showcase hometown hero!

Just looked through the boxers and I guess they ain't stepped up so to speak because imo most were from\based in poorer country or fighting in low weight were hard to get big fights cos lots ppl don't give a shit about a Malaysian minimum weight
