Is Cotto a harder fight than Spence?

So Eddie has suggested Cotto v Brook could be made if Cotto beats Kamegai at 154. As much as I would love this to happen and I think it would be a terrific fight and very exciting, I'm thinking to myself is this a harder fight than the one he was in with Spence?
We all know what Cotto is about, a very tough fighter and doesn't mind having a brawl. Brook is very similar, however with two broken eye sockets already, will they hold up against Cotto. Either guy could get beat up very badly in this.
I think Brook will be able to manage with Cotto more than he did against Spence, but I think the toughness and strength of Cotto could mean a very hard fight for Brook.
So, my answer to my own question is - no. I don't think it's a harder fight than Spence IF Kell fights his own style against Cotto. If they both hold the centre of the ring and brawl, I think it will be a much harder and tougher fight than Spence.

50/50 fight although I would be surprised if Brook got through a fight these days without a serious injury

Cotto would be an easier fight than Spence at this stage imo. He's basically on his farewell tour, isn't he?

Yeah definitely, the next loss for Cotto surely means retirement?

Spence is a much harder fight at this stage of there careers. Having said that, its pure pish from Eddie even mentioning his name. How he envisages that as being a possible fight is beyond me, especially as he's just speculating at where these two are going to be by at, career wise, by next summer.
Cotto is hardly going to choose Kell as an opponent, so eddie would have to fork out millions to get him to England, which is hardly his business model. He's basically went for sexiest name he can at 154 and threw it out there. Margarito would probably be more likely, as cant imagine he can command the sort of pay days Cotto can.
You'd really have to see how each of there next fights pans out to make any serious prediction, but cotto has been to the well and came back a fair few times so I'd tend to favor him slightly.

Cotto would have been much easier opponent instead of Spence. But now after Brook got mentally and physically crashed I dont know anymore. At least he wont have to make 147.
Brook definitely needs one easier fight 154 before he faces another big name. You should nevver go into a difficult fight right after a bad loss, especially 2 bad losses.

I can't see that fight happening. Cotto can get a bigger name (in the US) and an easier opponent.

I'd favour Brook to beat Cotto. Cotto in the twilight of his career.
As previously mentioned it all depends on how his eyes hold up.

In response to the thread question: No, definitely not
He could've been at his very best perhaps, but certainly not now.

Sad to say but I can't see Brook doing much at 154 on the World scene. Very tough division.
A Khan fight seems the best option (money wise) for the pair of them.

a prime Cotto beats prime Brook. Too early to say for the best Spence v Cotto.

Who does Eddie think him and Brook are , Cotto may see Brooks has an opponent , but facts are Brooks is damaged goods , he's been stopped in his last two fights and bean severly beaten up , Does'nt excatly put them in prime position does it , after all its not has if he has agreat record to fall back on ,, he's now just another Khan without the big name resume Khans got .

I just want brook to retire.
Got so sick of his career I can't be arsed with build up fights ( which he will obviously need) then Hearn saying oh big fight next ....

I don't see why, Brook's been fun to watch and only has 2 losses. He still has a lot to give. Sure he might need some soft touches, but a fight with Amir Khan or Cotto or a few others at 154 could still be fun.
I still wanna see more of Brook. If he retired fair enough, but I think he's still got some high level performances left in him.

Now that both eye sockets have been repaired, he is good to go.
Broken bones fix stronger than before the break.
There was no sure fire game plan on how to beat unbeaten Spence, Cotto has been beaten several different ways.

I agree. Brook's only 2 losses have come against a genuine elite fighter in GGG and against a potential elite fighter in Spence, and he was certainly competitive in both. I know his career has been largely disappointing in terms of what could have been, but he still has a lot to offer. Assuming he's not too affected by his injuries, of course.

When I was looking at Cottos previous opponents I noticed Eggington has crept one above Brook on boxrec.
While I understand that they use a system for ratings, come on!
Brook is A grade no doubt. Sam is B, or B+ tops. If those two fought, who would be the underdog?
Surely it has to be Sam. I'd like to see it.
I don't think Brook should retire just yet.
Even in the UK there are fights I would love to see him in, Sam, Amir etc

I'm not sure what level cotto is still at but I do know spence is a fresh, hungry killer from seeing the brook fight. He's a handful for anyone at welter with his size
Really like brook hope he can come back and feature at the top again

I think the impressive thing about Spence is, just because he's big and aggressive we shouldn't underestimate both how skilled and talented he is with it. Look at the amount of times he thudded his jab in Brooks face, totally outjabbing a man with a pretty good jab himself and personally I think causing the eye injury.

Yeah he's a skilled operator not just a brawler. I think skill wise brook was there wit him though but he couldn't maintain his level

Styles thing, any version of Brook is given hell late in the fight by Spence IMO, but a less talented and skilled operator putting that kind of heat on Brook would probably end up getting himself knocked out

Fair comment. I'd like to see it again at 154 in the future if they're both still at the top

Spence would knock him out quicker at 154

Possibly, spence is entering his prime years
