Jeff Horn the new Marcos Maidana

Albeit less refined, if that is possible. Good power, great heart, and is not afraid to throw nonstop leather.

Doubt he beats Pac in a rematch if the judging is fair, but we'll see. Most other Welterweights would beat him, but I can see him milking his title in Australia for a while. Every title defense against ANYBODY would be a big event there after this.Best Coast wrote:IMHO Horn will fade into the shadows much quicker than Maidana did. Maybe and probably. I dont see him beating the top welterweights. Saying that, I saw him beat Pac and if he takes the rematch he'll beat him again which makes him relevant for this year and next.Best Coast wrote:IMHO Horn will fade into the shadows much quicker than Maidana did. He might beat him in the rematch because 38 year old fighters don't get better, but he didn't beat him tonight.lazboy wrote:Maybe and probably. I dont see him beating the top welterweights. Lol thats fine. We are entitled to our opinions. Saying that, hopefully this just motivates Horn, to do it again but better. He's getting support from Australians from what I see online, so he won't take the criticism as hard as say Bradley did. No one expected this, it's a big deal and nice story if you ask me.gilgamesh wrote:He might beat him in the rematch because 38 year old fighters don't get better, but he didn't beat him tonight.lazboy wrote:Maybe and probably. It's good for Horn that he bursts onto the world scene. The thing is though. He would've done that regardless. He won the fight, and he would've gotten the respect of the boxing community based on his effort no matter what. The BS decision is gonna turn some against him. Not me, I know it's not his fault the judges had their heads up their asses, and I do look forward to seeing more of the kid, he can definitely still get better as a fighter given he's still got less than 20 fights. There's still a lot of upside for him. If his people are smart they'll avoid any of the big names of the division for a while outside of a rematch with Manny. Jeff Horn vs ANYBODY in Australia would do big business for a while, and he could stand to get a little more seasoning against some fringe contenders before taking on the likes of Thurman, Spence, Crawford, Porter and the rest.lazboy wrote:Lol thats fine. Definately not going to disagree with the second part of your paragraph. He needs some work, not that I'm one to judge. He started boxing at age 18 so that adds to this nice story, not that I was following him, this is the first fight I've watched him live and I'm Australian but he's definately got my attention now. Rematch with Manny is the best move, if possible. The other names, I can't see him beating...at the moment. He's seems quite smart and yes could use some seasoning so...who knows but I'm sure they all want his number now.gilgamesh wrote:It's good for Horn that he bursts onto the world scene. The Pac of 2 years ago would have KOd this clown and taken it out of the crooked judges' hands. Pac at 38 has clearly lost a few steps!!amwsnw wrote:very possible Spence would beat him, but i think most thought Manny would beat him easily and that didnt happen.
He's not a clown.Best Coast wrote:The Pac of 2 years ago would have KOd this clown and taken it out of the crooked judges' hands. Pac at 38 has clearly lost a few steps!!amwsnw wrote:very possible Spence would beat him, but i think most thought Manny would beat him easily and that didnt happen.
Spence will make this crude brawler look like the overhyped clown that he truly is.
overhyped?! nobody, at all, has been or is hyping this guy. nobody.Best Coast wrote:The Pac of 2 years ago would have KOd this clown and taken it out of the crooked judges' hands. I don't know..i may be crazy but I think that this kid Horn is better than people are giving him credit for. I watched the fight again yesterday and yes, Manny's older but he was still Manny being Manny. The same guy that trounced a solid Jesse Vargas 7 months ago. Horn manhandled Manny and showed some fantastic movement and appeared to be dangerous with both hands from strange angles. All this and he might be the largest WW i've ever seen.lazboy wrote:Albeit less refined, if that is possible. Good power, great heart, and is not afraid to throw nonstop leather.
Less refined? Maidana was far from refined. Horn has a ways to go. If he fights Floyd, (which I doubt) he will look foolish and get schooled, even though Floyd is 40. Others that would definitely beat him are Thurman, Spence, Porter, Garcia, Crawford, Bradley. He better stick to guys like Vargas, Lopez, Guerrero, Berto, Collazo, Khan, even Broner, and those would be 50/50 tough fights for him....I would actually favor most if they fought. He got a (gift?) win vs Pacquiao, but lets not get carried away.lazboy wrote:Albeit less refined, if that is possible. Good power, great heart, and is not afraid to throw nonstop leather.
Not sure it gets less refined that Maidana.lazboy wrote:Albeit less refined, if that is possible. Good power, great heart, and is not afraid to throw nonstop leather.
Actually Jeff Horn looks like a standard Welterweight. It's just that Manny Pacquiao looks like a Jr. Lightweight that eats his way up to Welterweight when he's in the ring. He's been so damn good for so long that he could make up for the fact that he's undersized at the weight, but he can't do it now.Ricky_ wrote:He's not as good as Maidana, but he's probably bigger. Jeff Horn has no business at Welterweight. He looked like Chavez Jr when he was pretending he was a middleweight. I think Horn will maybe get a fight or 2 in a heavier division and will end up flat on his back rather than simply having his face busted in.
I'm not sure Horn is a 'standard ww'. Just guessing unless anyone has the weights but he looked over 160. Pacquiao's been in with big guys before: Algieri, Clottey, Margarito, Cotto. Horn looked bigger than those guys in the ring with Pac.gilgamesh wrote:Actually Jeff Horn looks like a standard Welterweight. And for the record, I'm not saying Manny is fat as a Welterweight he's certainly not, but he's not a natural Welterweight. He's just not built to be that big.
He doesn't look bigger than Margarito. It's not uncommon for guys to gain 10 or 12 pounds following a weigh in so I don't doubt he was closer to 160 in the ring.Ricky_ wrote:I'm not sure Horn is a 'standard ww'. The heaviest I've seen from a welterweight on 'official' scales was Victor Ortiz, 164lb vs Floyd, a gain of 17lb. Just from googling a few Australian sources seem to be guessing Horn wouldn't be far off that figure and rehydrate around +15lb to 162. He dropped around 15lb in the final 24 hours before the weigh-in. Horn has no business at Welterweight, and those hot baths won't work for much longer.gilgamesh wrote:He doesn't look bigger than Margarito.
