I have done a few corners at unlicensed shows and would like to be in the corner on pro shows, so I am thinking of applying to the BBBC for a seconds license.


Any thoughts or advice on the process would be welcome

I love the game. I don't expect to get rich but I like to look after the fighters.

Go for it! Learn the rules of the sport properly and enjoy it.

You'll need to be either attached to a professional Promotional outfit and be granted permission to work as a house second or be associated with Pro trainers or Boxers that will actually want you in their corner.

Not in my region you don't.some background is wanted,but I know lads who aren't attached with amybody and they've got their seconds badge

To get work you'd have to be attached to promotional outfit or be granted permission to work as house (away fighter usually) second though!

You can get seconds badge but need that to "get work"

Are you looking to become a corner second or trainer?

Either way apply to the board office in Cardiff. They put you in touch with your area council who will have you in for an interview. They'll ask you four or five questions about spotting injuries, what you can take into the corner with you etc.

Then you have to go on one of the board first aid courses.

It'll cost you about 300 quid to get fully licensed.

Like others have said, you really need to have a couple of pros that want you in a corner or get in with a promoter that will use you as s house second, almost always in the away corner. You'll get paid pittance if at all, but have a great view all night.

I am looking at applying to be a trainer / second.

I had a board interview for a trainer/second license at the start of the year.

Got a bit of a grilling as i've only worked corners in the unlicensed game and have zero coaching qualifications, but I boxed amateur for a number of years and been in gyms and around the sport since the late 90's. Also like to think i've got a solid knowledge of the sport overall and know how to train fighters, which was touched upon in the interview, as well as stuff about diet, weight making, prep on the day of a fight etc

If you've got a reasonable level of intelligence and common sense, and understand that fighter safety is paramount, then the interview shouldn't be a problem.

Haven't done my first aid course yet but hoping to get it sorted asap, then have to find some actual fighters to work with

Getting the license is relatively easy for anyone with a modicum of intelligence but you won't get any work if your not attached to Pro outfit/trainer/boxer. You can't just turn up at shows and go in a corner without permission from the promoter or the Boxer and his immediate team.

About 10 years ago i was running a local pro to fights with his trainer and i thought about doing it,asked the trainer who is a good mate of mine and he said he will sort it,i didnt know were to go ya see as there wasnt many pros in this area at that time. So i thought if im taking this guy to shows maybe i could get paid aswell as being a house second,turns out the trainer who is my mate said behind my back "as if im gonna get him his second licence then he robs all my fighters and opens up his own gym,hes got no chance" after that i think i stayed away for a few years. Then he mentioned it again to another fighter a couple of years ago saying "remember he wanted me to get his 2nd licence and he was gonna go and open his gym with so and so" tbh boxing is full of snakes but im not one and if thats what small time trainers think what is it like at the top so its a business id rather not be in and since then iv not even thought about gettin it.
