I did put up a thread not long ago, where it said Linares was in London training for his next fight with Ismail Salas. There was rumours that he would be training Haye as well..

Now it's official

Salas, who has worked with the likes of Jorge Linares, Guillermo Rigondeaux and Nonito Donaire.

"I am thrilled to welcome Salas, a trainer I have known for a number of years, into my corner," said Haye.

"I have huge respect for what he has achieved on a world level to date and place huge value on what he can bring to my armoury. I am determined not only to get back on the main stage of the heavyweight division, but on entering the ring with a renewed skill set to recapture world titles.

Salas shares Haye's ambition as the Cuban firmly believes that the 36-year-old can compete with the world's top heavyweights.

"Naturally I have followed David's comeback with great interest, he is a proven world-class talent in an incredibly exciting division.

"Boxing fans want to see him back in the biggest shows, hunting world titles, and that is exactly where I believe he belongs."

Does it really matter at this point?

I think he could be getting trained by the Ghosts of Eddie Futch, Emanuel Steward and Cus D'Amato and he ain't getting any better now. Inactive, injury prone fighters don't get better.

It matters more than ever now.. He has maybe 4 or 5 more years of productive boxing left in his career because he's so skillful and crafty - as boxers go.

His brains and health are intact. There's still millions to be made and he's done very well with his career so far on that scale. People told Foreman he was pissing up a rope when he did his comeback at 38.. He sought help from a clergyman.. "Do what's in your heart. Don't let anyone else live your life for you."

I agree. He just needs to stay fit.

Ismael has had a proven track record of success when you look at his career:
*Trained the Thailand national boxing team who took Gold
*Trained Gamboa - former IBF and WBA featherweight champion
*Trained Rigondeaux - arguably one of the best boxers on the planet right now

David Haye has grown into a natural Heavyweight since coming back from surgery and has stopping power and real heart in the sport, proven in my eyes when he was carrying on as long as he did in his last fight with Bellew after his achilles tendon gave out early in the fight.
if he trains right under Salas and with the WBA regular world heavyweight title still vacant at the moment he has every chance of regaining a title when he comes back.

Bellew took his soul.

Bellew didn't take anything from Haye... DH finished on his feet and lost because he was gravely injured... He'll be back.

Do you really think Haye can fight into his 40s, when he can't complete a training camp or engage in a meaningful contest without his body falling apart at 36?

He might be able to fight into his 40s if he fights people like Mark De Mori & Arnold Whatshisname, but it isn't happening if he fights guys who can & will hit him back.

Also comparing him to Foreman makes no sense.

Foreman was idle for a decade & didn't have a history of endless injuries.

Foreman was slow when he was 25, so his lack of speed was never an issue for him.

George relied on mega punch power, super human strength & a chin made of concrete.

Haye relies on speed & explosiveness & he is not as quick since returning to embark on his waxwork dummy tour, so I just can't see how he will be any use when he is 40+.

Haye is noticeably slower since returning. His timing looked woeful vs Bellew.

If you check Ismael Salas history it seems he can never keep fighters for long. Yuriorkis Gamboa, Sullivan Barrera, Guillermo Rigondeaux, Erislandy Lara, Yoandris Salinas, and I'm sure many others. Have all come and gone in short periods of time. What's the longest Salas has ever trained someone for? In recent history I don't think he's ever had anyone for more than a year or 2. Just seems like a bad sign. Of course I could be wrong. Doesn't seem like people have been very eager to stay with Salas for long though.
