oscar plans to confuse hopkins apparently

According to an interview on fightnews at any rate....he couldn't even confuse the one dimensional Mosley in their fight, even though I had him winning it clearly.

Unless he enters the ring in a money-suit and begins making bird-call and animal noises, I fail to see what he is going to show Nard that he won't know how to deal with.

Hopkins will do better than against sturm, but I just cannot see how he can come close to beating old man river.

It's certainly what he's got to try and do. He needs plenty of speed and plenty of movement...and that's why i believe he should be coming in at 154 at the most. He can make the first few rounds close but it's a only a matter of times before Hopkins get's to him, and he's not the type of guy who get's baffled, as you say he's far from one dimensional. I think Hopkins wins in 10 rounds...maybe DLH will hear the final bell.

I don't believe Oscar belongs at middleweight, and for what it's worth, I think Winky would have beaten him at light middle too. Oscar's too far beyond his natural zone to go in with a killer like Hopkins.

I would never count out someone with as much talent as Oscar has, but it looks like a hiding to nothing from where I'm sitting. Great fight for the mainstream audience though, fantastic.

i completely agree. he's a nutter for taking this fight. Personally i didn't want to see him go above welterweight. But challenges motivate him, and this is one huge challenge. I agree he gets battered. Perhaps he can keep out of harms way for 3 or 4 rounds, but he will eventually recieve some serious punishment.

If the poorly conditioned and slow version of DLH that we watched against Sturm turns up (which i believe it will, because that's the way he is now) it's going to be a very hard night for the guy.

His problem is that the speed has gone for good, even in his best performances of recent years, Vargas and Gatti, he was almost ponderous at times. Couple the lack of speed with the fact the his defence has become increasingly leaky and it all points to a big win for Hopkins. I can see this fight being very much like Hopkin's fight with Joppy, a one sided beating.

On the weight issue, i think you're spot on James. He should have never gone any higher than welter. He just doesn't have the frame to be so heavy. But credit to the bloke, if he hadn't moved through the weights the way he has we'd have missed out on several decent fights.

God damn it! Maybe i should concentrate on one thing at a time. That way people like you wouldn't post exactly what i'm thinking before i get round to posting it.

On the issue of shape, he's looking in good shape already, you can see by his face alone how much slimmer he is, and he has stated he will come in at 154 which will suit him better than the blobby 160 he came in at. What worries me though is that as you say, he just doesn't have the speed of movement any more.

Joppy is a pretty nippy guy at middleweight, and Hopkins just tore him a new asshole, he forced Joppy to stand and trade, and he will find a way to do that to Oscar eventually. Oscar is smart, but I believe Nard is smarter, stronger AND a better fighter.

Be a great result for DLH if he wins and fair play to him. I'm not a big fan of Oscar, but he fights the best and I think he was shafted against Trinidad, was very unlucky first time around against Mosley (I felt he won) and was just plain screwed over in their rematch. If he can use his speed and outbox Hopkins he'll win me over. However, I can see Bernard just mauling him over the distance and giving him a steady beating.

damn, boy, learn how to score a fight. oscar got schooled the first time and out-muscled the second. mosley is 3 for 3 against oscar and rightly so.

Whatever the outcome DLH deserves massive amounts of credit for facing Hopkins, he has fought the best. Legend in the making.

What bullshit! Mosley won by the narrowest of margins in the 1st fight as Oscar stood and traded in the final few rounds and lost his lead.

I know how to score a fight, and you do not win fights if you don't land shots, and Mosley hardly landed any shots all night. The main criteria for scoring is supposed to be effective aggression, and throwing shots which miss, or simply feinting and not doing anything is not 'effective aggression'

Mosley won the first by 1 round on my card, it was a very very close fight, so quite how Mosley schooled him is beyond me, he was behind on all cards going into the last four rounds, hardly a dominating performance.

As for the 2nd, Mosley did nothing for the first 6 rounds, and very little in the 2nd half either except feint and bob about, which does not score rounds, just because he lands a few hard shots in the fight, does not automatically win him rounds there are plenty of people around the world who know how to score rounds, people with 20 years experience covering fights who thought that Oscar was jobbed, are you saying that none of those know how to score rounds?

Having an opinion is one thing, but don't try and insinuate you're the only one here who knows how to score fights.....

the first fight was an amateur one about 15 years ago

ouch.

Mosley won the first by two rounds. Only one winner.

But Oscar won the second, the look on SSM face at the decision TOLD the true stroy.

Yep, Mosley knew damned well he'd lost, he looked embarassed in there when the put the mike in his face. The look of surprise was so obvious. All that bullshit about how they were surprised because they expected to get ripped off, was just that, bullshit.

Mosley looked really dejected from about round 5 onward, when he realised he just didn't have the handspeed any more to beat Oscar to the punch. Mosley was too musclebound and resorted to throwing big body shots to try and win him the fight.

He does not belong at Middleweight. People keep comparing him to Ray Leonard but come on

Leonard, Hit harder, was stronger, bigger, faster, and a better boxer than Oscar. Half of DLH weight is in that Pumpkin head of his.

Hopkins will slaughter him.

The only people who scored the rematch to Mosley are the ones who picked him to win beforehand.

Thinking about it Oscar, despite having never looked as good since he left the lightwelter division (IMO), should be going into this Hopkins fight with a pretty clean slate. He all but cleared up the Mosley blemish, and nobody in their right mind would have scored anything better than a draw for Felix Trinidad.

bull-$h!t, james, you know how to score a fight? or you know how to be told how to score it by ian darke? answer me this, if oscar won that fight so comfortabley:

1. oscar's the home town boy with the home town fans. all three judges scored the fight for mosley - how come?

2. oscar's the media darling but 21 of 30 press reps ringside scored the fight to mosley by margins of between 2 and 6 rounds - how come?

3. the fight crowd was at least 75% pro oscar - a fighter more renowned for blinkered fans than any other in the sport - yet there were no boos or dissent of any kind when the decision was announced - how come?

only one answer, my friend, those who weren't influenced by the commentary teams to score in oscar's favour - those at the live fight with the best view of the action - thought mosley toughed out a deserved decision.

hell, even oscar's very own cheerleader larry merchant admitted he'd scored it to mosley by a round when he reviewed the tape.

still reckon you know how to score fights? or do you just score it like you're told to?

Mosley looked much stronger in the fight, stronger than expected. I think that's what fooled you.

   fooled me!! you guys crack me up. we got most experts and most accredited judges scoring the fight to mosley and i'm the one who's fooled? you part-timers keep me entertained, i can tell ya. learn how to score properly and come back to me.

i've never heard one valid reason why anyone would score that fight to oscar - lots of posturing but no actual facts to back up the bluster. you either ridiculously impressed by the golden boy's twenty second shoe-shine flurries (most of which missed) or you just blind to any work not done by dlh. mosley clearly landed the more hurtful punches and was the one looking to control the fight. oscar's pitty-pat punches going away from mosley ain;t gonna get many points in vegas. it's a fight, you know, boys? the one who's making the fight and having the success usually wins. in this case, it went to the rightful victor.

So far the whole basis for your argument (if we exclude the throw away comment "Mosley out-muscled De La Hoya") has been about who else scored the fight to Mosley. Not very convincing at all mate.

I had no idea we had such a genius on the forum, please give the rest of us a few tips on how to score a fight.

not at all, kid, but since you don;t have a single excuse for giving the fight to oscar aside from the fact that sky's commentary team told you he deserved the nod, why should i bother? and, btw, thanks for the compliment, but - in fairness - it's easy to look like an expert next to you. :TU:
