Will May-Mac blow out GGG v Canelo?

I reckon the PPV numbers are going to be shit for GGGs fight. This media circus around Floyds match is going to suck the casuals in and leave them unwilling to buy into the legit super fight. It's sad but that's the way of the world nowadays, plastic rules.

I'm going to say no, on the basis that I find this sort of talk a bit OTT given how quickly fights become yesterday's news.

Put it this way. I don't think many people at all who would have watched GGG Canelo are now not going to watch it on the basis that they are going to watch Mayweather McGregor.

(I am being quite UK-based here as I really don't know enough about the US PPV scene.)

I think it will reduce the GGG-Canelo numbers, but I imagine that many of the May-Mac buyers will be ultra casuals or MMA fans who wouldn't have bought the GGG fight anyway. And will May-Mac have that great of an impact on the demographic which buys Canelo's fights in significant part because he's Mexican?

Yep, that's what ODH is slagging the fight off non stop, it will do massive damage to their figures.

This fight should of happened 18 months ago..

May Mac is a freak event but I'd pay serious money to watch it

Entertainment value alone is worth it and I cant wait for it

This. Your entertainment should be found in the promo tour. Do people really expect the actual fight to be entertaining?

In the U.K. sales will be unaffected, the general public don't know who Golovkin and Alvarez are.
In America I'm really not sure. I suspect yes as Alvarez a bit of a crossover star.

Scenario 1 - Fun fight: Conor comes aggressive looking for KO, as he claims and gets KOed fast. Negative impact on GGG/Canelo minimal.

Scenario 2 - Bore fest: Conor decides to last and runs, which I think is more likely. Result, very dull 12 rounds. Negative impact on GGG/Canelo substantial.

Scenario 3 - Disaster: Floyd twists his ankle, his shoulder comes of, etc. Conor wins! GGG/Canelo obliterated, boxing dead.

Ha ha . Class
If I was McGregor id try last 12 rounds and run but mcgregor is a bit case and surely knows he can't beat Floyd ina stand off fight so will try crazy stuff

Highly unlikely that McGregor's wins, but no top class Boxer would come out throwing hell for leather for 3 rounds against Mayweather .

If McGregor totally abandons boxing and just throws wild punches from all angles with power non stop fir a few rounds then it could get interesting. Obviously he has zero chance if he tries to box Floyd, so why would he adopt boxing tactics.

Regardless Mayweather would just cover up, but the only chance McGregor has is to go crazy Ivan non stop until he gasses.

Conor will try to do something in the first round or two. But when he sees that he is constantly out of position, cant land a thing and is getting hit in the mouth, he realizes that winning is impossible. So instead he decides to survive and claim the moral victory of lasting 12 rounds in his 1st boxing match against the best boxer in the world. Then he can say to Floyd, you boy wont last a round in octagon with me. After all purse split is decided in advance and Conor has no need to necessarily win.

Good post. McGregor will make the decision to stop taking chances after eating some flush counters like almost every Mayweather opponent. Going in he already knows that this is the likeliest outcome, considering the likes of canelo were made to look pedestrian vs Floyd.

I had a dream last night that McGregor brutalised Floyd in four rounds and his coupon was a mask of blood

The fights a sham but I've enjoyed some of the build up. McGregor is a crazy bastard

Two issues with this. Good boxers have tried to swarm Floyd and rough him up, but Floyd has dealt with them. That was Maidana's tactic for two dozen rounds tbf.

Secondly, throwing hell for leather for three rounds will be exhausting for McGregor when he's being countered at will.

It's very odd that being very bad is something Floyd is supposedly unable to deal with. This isn't poker.

You think about this fight and the more you think the more you sort of relize MISMATCH , its a complete joke of a fight a circus event , and just a complete piss take . BUT something does spring to mind , a few years ago . we had this guy a good pro , come into our gym to train , he was fighting on a card , against a well known world champ , I'm not gonna mention names , i never will on the net ,

Anyway he had 3-4 nights left before the fight and his trainer said to me , i' would like him to just move around for a couple of rnds before saturday night , can he move around with them two guys , the two guys being the only ones left in the gym everyone else had gone home , I said yeh no worries , he can move around with him , being my son who was a good ameteur with 80 odd fights under his belt , but we'll give the other one a miss , he's a beginner and does'nt know too much .

His trainer said , Oh don't worry about him , we'll look after him he spars the ameteurs all the time at home , ( the states ) . I said i'm not worried about him , i'm worried about your guy , he laughed and said , thought you said he's had no fights , i said he's not , but he's a very strong lad , tough has teak , and very agressive , , he just swings and gets very wild he does everything he's not supposed to and throws from everywhere , this kid was a wild bugger , , the trainer laughed and said , don't worry he'll be alright ,,

So i said Jimmy you want to have a spar with him ,, fook yeh he said , could'nt wait to get in , have a go and then go tell his mates , who he sparred ,, anyway , my son jumped in , they done a very light , very technical couple of rnds , a joy to watch

Jimmy was watching from the side lines , that eager to get in you would of thought he was waiting for his first shag , his turn come and i said to him , very light Jimmy just move around and jab , its only to get this guy loose , Yeh ok , he says , well has son has he took a jab in the face he lost it , and fooking run at this guy with his arms flaying like windmills , he caught the guy on the eye and split it ,, within 20-30 seconds , they had him out of there and were worried to death about his up coming fight and his split eye ,, ,,, remember well the trainer having a go at my kid , and i had to step up and tell him no get stuffed it was your fault i warned you he was a novice and beginners don't know the book and don't box by the book .

Now we all know Floyd can box the ears of a boxer , my suspision is he's not gonna meet a boxer he's gonna meet a Jimmy ,, still reckon its a mismatch , but when i think back on Jimmy i smile and think , i hope so .
