According to Golden Boy President Eric Gomez, middleweight contenders Tureano Johnson (20-1, 14 KOs) and Sergiy Derevyanchenko (10-0, 8 KOs) will meet on August 25th in an IBF eliminator fight. The fight appears to be scheduled at the Buffalo Run Casino in Oklahoma with Gomez making the news official to RingTV.

Johnson, 33, currently has the #1 rating with the IBF while Derevyanchenko, 31, holds the #2 position with the sanctioning body. The winner would become the mandatory challenger to current titleholder Gennady Golovkin — although that belt could change hands when he faces Canelo Alvarez this September.

Johnson is most recently coming off of a knockout win over Fabiano Pena in March, marking his sixth consecutive win since losing his first fight to Curtis Stevens back in 2014.

Meanwhile Derevyanchenko, who is promoted by Lou DiBella, is riding a four-fight stoppage streak, last knocking out Kemalh Russell this past March.

DiBella won the purse bid for the fight, which is good news for him because it’s actually a really good match-up.

Thoughts?

Yes, this. If Canelo beats Golovkin, he should vacate the IBF because Derevyanchenko would put a whooping on him and GGG. This dude is effing amazing. :bag:

Yes, and I don't see what's so special. Why is he amazing?

He's strong as a bull and comes from all angles. Dude puts up a masterclass on inside. Stamina for days, and very hard to hit when he gets his rhythm going. He's been improving exponentially every fight.

Guy has found that power he used to have in WSB. Dude was hurting fighters with bigger gloves. I was surprised when he entered as a pro and looked featherfisted, but he now has found his power and been stopping guys.

Okay fair enough, I haven't been impressed with him and think he gets beaten easily when he fights top opposition.
