A fighter I admired back in the 90's. Hard to believe he's still under 50.

Anyway, just found out that he's a Private Eye these days & has done bodyguard work for Tiger Woods. He's also a motivational speaker & hosted a Private Eye shindig down in Dania Beach, where I've lived twice.

And he runs a gym across the street from the casino I worked out. I never knew. I would have popped in to say hello if I'd known.

And Shannon Briggs trains there

And Wladimir Klitschko has a penthouse suite there too.

I never realised it was a hotbod of heavyweights when I was there.

I liked Moorer too.

He wasn't an ATG, but he was in some exciting fights (the Cooper fight was one of the greatest) & he probably got the most out of his talent.

Good to hear he's doing well for himself.

Anyway, agree on Cooper fight, that was just insane. I remember Moorer beating someone in his 22nd fight and turning to the camera and taunting "22-0, 22 KO's baby!"

I disagree that he got the most out of his talent. He was one of the most skilled heavyweights since Larry Holmes, he had fantastic arsenal - very crisp, hard right jab, brutal right hook and right uppercut, good streight left hand and left hook. He could throw combinations, had good timing and high boxing IQ. But he was lazy. VERY lazy, and it's really sad. And, of course, his chin was far from granite one.

But I enjoyed his career, especially his epic wars against Bert Cooper and Alex Stewart. Also, his win over Jirov when Moorer was way past his prime was very good as well. Against Holyfield he looked really good not only in the first fight, but in rematch too (until the first knock down). I think his right hook in the first round of rematch with Holyfield hurt Evander more than anything that Lewis and Tyson landed on Holyfield in 24 and 14 rounds of their fights respectively. Yes, Moorer was a good puncher even for a heavyweight. In the light heavyweight he was just brutal. His career was good, but it could have definitely been better if he had dedication to boxing of Holyfield or Lennox Lewis.

Fair points.

He did definitely have some good skills.

He was an absolute beast at 175 & though this sounds daft in light of what he went on to achieve, I would have like to seen what he could have become at 175.

Teddy Atlas is a bit of a blowhard but in his book he says that Moorer didn't have the confidence to be an ATG and was lazy too.

Loved all the fights mentioned.

Moorer was great. He burst onto the scene at LH. I remember a KO or Ring interview he did around 1990 with the headline 'I crave violence'.
