i see on facebook alot of people dont like ex Bbbofc referee Richie Davies

The legendary journyman Johnny greaves hates him
Mabey if u read this johnny pal you can tell us why mate

Why did he leave the bbbofc, when he did he joined th
MBC/BIBA but fell out with there owner Gianluca Di Caro

I also read he ripped off hes own son but dont know if that true

but why does alot in boxing world hate him what did he do ?

Did he used to work in Tesco? That's a big no-no with a lot of users on this site.

I always like Richie as a ref, he never lost control of a fight or got flustered, I remember him having some sort of gripe with the BBBC when he stepped down, cant remember exactly what it was but I'm sure I remember sympathising with him at the time

Aye, you're right. I think it was something to do with bringing in refs and judges from outside the UK for big fights, instead of going with BBBC people

Used to post on here, great ref and officiated some amazing fights. Always remember Thompson vs Rothmann.... he could have waved that one off but his experience as a referee told so he gave the Cat those precious extra chance/ seconds and then boom!

Personally I thought he was an outstanding ref

Very good ref and it was a shame he jacked it in. It started to go tiits up when he was invited by FW to the Chisora/Haye fight and was seen ringside. The board didn't like it and I think they kind of stopped giving him titles to ref.

I know why Johnny Greaves doesn't like him and it's very understandable but it really isn't my place to discuss it as it is a personal matter and perhaps Johnny wouldn't want it discussed.

I remember Richie giving Bellew a bollocking seconds into the 1st Cleverly fight, some people thought he was OTT but I think he knew Bellew was severely highly strung so just warned him early to stop him in his tracks

I always liked him, never knew folk didn't like him? Someone making trouble?

Richie has posted here under the name 'Boxref' for many years.
I'm not aware of any hatred towards him.
I think a lot of people respected him as a ref.

It's a measure of how shite my memory is, when I saw BP attribute 'no naughties' to Davies, at first I thought he was wrong and it was Mickey Vann, but then assumed as bad as my memory is, I must have got it wrong and he must be right

Richie is a great ref and a great guy. He made his name as one of the youngest amateur referees on the circuit and proved it was no fluke in the money game. He had the misfortune to encounter Bobby Frankham on a terrible night for British boxing in 1987 but what happened had absolutely nothing to do with Richie's performance. Frankham jumped up too quickly from a knockdown and staggered into a corner, prompting Richie to quite rightly call it off.

Frankham had already been down a couple of times, he had nothing to complain about, I think he gave the old I don't remember what happened line!

Yeah, he was down twice. I just read the report. Bobby walked over to Billy Sim and stuck his tongue out and then refused to touch gloves. It got a lot worse.

Vann accent is completely different too not sure how I got that mixed up!
