Good post........ if you've read Tysons bio he claims he was cautious and ill prepared when facing both Golota and Bruno the second time. But it appears they were far more scared of him. That's boxing psychology for you.

Golota was a nut job, he won the round before he quit.

Probably, he was terrified of Lewis.

Most people who fought Mike Tyson were scared of him.

It's quite telling that the ones that weren't performed the best against him.

Mitch Green definitely was not scared of Mike Tyson, but he threw the fight anyway.

Golota wasn't scared... He just had no fukking boxing ability or skill at defending himself... Brewster, Lewis, and Tyson all finished the Foul Pole quickly... Tyson should have made it another 1-round KO, but he wasn't as big, tall, or strong as the others who crushed Golota so he had to beat on him for 2... Michael Grant and John Ruiz couldn't box very well and they beat the punching bag.

The medical report said that Golota had a crushed cheekbone and severely dislocated vertebra in his neck vs Tyson... It was a legitimate quit.

I don't think it was clear if the vertebrae was a pre existing condition....but the cheekbone was fresh.


It's funny how you don't recognize Golata's psyche condition. He was a bit of a snowflake for such a capable pugilist. And you seem to want to lay all his woes at the feet of his boxing skills.
Most people recognize that his persona/character/psyche was one of his fundamental vulnerabilities.

You're a snowflake BuzzBox. That's a good description for you. Golota was an emotional flake as well -- and he had a weak mind. He quit outright against Michael Grant and didn't have the mindset of a winner. But his biggest problem by far was he couldn't box on a world level at any time. He couldn't even outbox John Ruiz -- a man so unskilled that a former Middleweight Champion of the World moved up and finessed the swinger like he was his daddy. Stop telling me what I recognize because you're not even paying attention when you read most posts... You're off in Zu Zu Land.

It is worth noting that Golota didn't fight for almost 3 full years after the fight with Tyson.

Obviously, he quit, but there are literally dozens of reasons why he might have not wanted to be there. By that time, Tyson was, shall we say, somewhat unpredictable in there, so I don't think it's outlandish to wonder if maybe Golota just wanted to get the hell away from him.

But, a three year hiatus after would suggest that he might have had any number of issues on his mind going into that fight.

If your corner is screaming at you to continue and you want to quit -- that's a corner you never want to work with again. So yes you'd leave for 3 years ... Or maybe you're just fed up with all the A-holes and say "that's it."

I don't think that was a bad over-match for him and courage came into play.. Golota didn't have a lot of resolve and you had to knock Michael Grant out.. If he had any chance to win he'd keep trying.

That's true enough BEFORE the Tyson intimidation mystique was blown by Douglas & Holyfield but AFTER that there were very few fighters intimidated by him, Golota being one of the few. Even a scrub like Kevin McBride didnt fall for the intimidation factor after Tyson was exposed.

Even freaking Frans Botha was whipping Tyson every round with one-two combos until he stuck his chin out & challenged Tyson to hit it, which Tyson did & dropped him like a clown.

Interesting, didn't realize he had sustained so much in the way of injury in the fight. Obviously, that changes the equation quite a bit. Although, I only meant that he "quit" in the sense that he said he didn't wish to continue. I don't like ascribing motivation when I don't know what's what.

I just remember he wouldn't come out for the 3rd round. This is a good example once again of why it is important to not jump to pointed opinions about things when you don't know all the facts.

That's not what happened. He didn't stick his chin out.

you really seen Ruiz winning vs Golota? or you haven't even seen the fight?

Grant vs Golota was NOT hoax.. Golota threw a knockdown punch at Grant that was hard enough to knock somebody out.. You don't do that if you're throwing a fight.. There was an ebb and flow to the fight and Grant started taking charge.. He started landing hard shots, punished Golota, and knocked him down.. When Golota got up he walked away from the referee.. Since your job is to FACE the referee when you get up, he was asked, "Do you want to fight?? ... Do you want to fight??? ... Do you want to fight?? ... Do you want to fight?? "

He didn't want to fight... He was discouraged... But he was trying hard to fight up to that point.

i tried to find if there is a translation or not but it seems that unfortunately it's not. Masa said that mafia's boss ''Pershing'' (which was at Golota-Grant fight) was killed shortly after the fight because he not included the mafia's ''elders'' in the business of hoaxing Golota's fight. Pershing was the guy that was hiding Golota in his house in 1990 for 2 months when he had problems with law in Poland and already prepared sentence, and helped him to fled to Chicago where, as ''Masa'' stated, Golota was ''working'' for Polish gangster Mieczyslaw ''Olawa'' Mikolajczak.

btw in his book he also wrote: ''I provided for my customers entertaiment at its best. British band Spice Girls performed in my club. And if that's not enough, people could get the best cocaine and smoke marihuana that was delivered there in kilograms every day. with the actual David Beckham's wife, Victoria, i smoked a lot of weed in the VIP lounge. But i hadn't any closer relationship because they were not particularly attractive at the time. My bartenders where like a stars compared to them.''

Yes i knew about most of that. Pershing made his residence at the Golota traing camp for the Grant fight. When he returned to Poland he was promptly bumped off. Golota attended his funeral with the other gangsters.
