Takashi Uchiyama, a long-time WBA 130-pound champion, announced his retirement on Saturday in Tokyo.
The 37 year-old Uchiyama gained the title in 2010 against Juan Carlos Salgado and made 11 successful defenses, falling just short of Yoko Gushiken’s treasured Japanese record of 13 world title defenses.
Uchiyama lost his title to Jezebel Corrales in 2016 and then lost a rematch by split decision.
Uchiyama finishes up with a career mark of 24-2-1 and assurances that he will be a Japanese boxing legend.

Sad, I think he could win one more vs some B class fighter, but was on time. I never expected he would suffer one of the most disappointing defeats of 2016 and of his career.
