Mickey Garcia is a boring, safety first fighter

He won most of the rds vs Broner, but chose to play it safe to the bell.
Very boring fighter, ala Crawford.
Compare it to the job Maidana did on Broner, which was entertaining as hell.

Like Kovalev, he's in love with his right hand power and forgets there''s a shot called left hook to the liver.

If you thought Mikey's performance was boring, maybe boxing isn't the sport for you.

maybe a bit boring, but that was a textbook performance by Mikey. He has the fight under control for 12 rounds. IMO he is a bit slow.

Dude. So funny. I came here to open a thread about both mik and ab being no warriors and u wrote exactly what i thought.

Ab a pu;#!&y for not making more effort letting shots go. Is he stupid. Didnt he realised that was losing rd after rd. So when u losing why not trying to either swing some hooks to end it all or throw some combos to at least win rds. Just make an effort and not start in round 8 when everything is already basicly over. Or is he just happy he got the paycheck win or lose!?

Mg, he could at least ones in a while tried to tko broner instead of being happy with ud. Playing it safe is over. Floyd robbed to many fans with playing it safe style. If mikey wants to win this way in future than f#_÷÷$€&k him, keith, lara, rigondeaux and everybody else who wants to take that route!!!!!

Thats why crawford and ward have 0 fans. Both top p4p boxery nobody gives a s&#t. Playing it safe, always witing for the opponent to throw the first punch to have the upper hand. Like x said "a boxer that punches leaves himself open vulnerable every time". Thats why pu:&?#÷ys like floyd always wait for the opponent to punch. If both fighters did that we would have a draw bevause both would throw and land 0

It was one of those fights where both guys stock went down. Garcia fans before fight will stay fans and say it was "textbook". The rest will call as it was, boring and unappealing stylistically.

in the rare spots Broner came forward, he outclassed Garcia and hurt him. If Broner ever had a top chief second, he'd be unbeatable. How anyone is dumb enough to think they can win a fight in peek a boo stance throwing one punch every 15 taken is beyond me.

Garcia did get W but I think Loma and TC would beat him easily. The gap between talent level is a lot bigger than we all thought.

I aggree.

Can u please explain to me what "top chief second" mean?

3 things that are broners problems.
1 he is mentaly not able to sense when its time to go controlled aggressiv
2 he doesnt have or lost will power
3 he needs an elite trainer who gives him good advice asap during the fight and not when he already lost 8 rds and its all over tegardless

Ab was trained and sharp. He couldve ud mikey. Mental.

Lol, broner couldn't beat Garcia with a shotgun. It wasn't thrilling because it was a mismatch but when a guy pitching a shutout throws about 300 punches in the last three rounds he's certainly not coasting. Like I've said for years, broner can't beat top fighters but he's very tough.

Never heard the phrase 'you can't fix stupid'?

You really think better coaching could de-moronise a (boxing) moron?

Caldo think of it his way

There are some MLB organisations that really prize their hitters getting walks, right? They constantly preach the virtues of controlling the strike zone, wearing the pitchers down, the sabermetrics virtues of walks and OBP, right?

And yet with all this focus and attention within these orgs there are still some dumb steroidal Dominicans who swing at jut about anything, right?

 I just caught that Crawford is safety first too. Jip, you've never exhibited much depth or understanding of the sport, but you're getting much worse.

Mikey boring??? When was the last time you have seen Broner dominated like that? You have seen Garcia's other fights, right? His power didnt seem anything special last night, but he displayed textbook perfection in his craft. IMO, if you didnt enjow that showcase performance from Mikey, maybe this sport isnt for you. If he didnt have the power to ko his opponent, what else should Mikey have done? Get hit more to make it exciting for you? Lol

 Crawford safety first? Now I've heard it all. If there were ever a boxer that could rely more on their technical ability and win fight being somewhat lackluster, it's Terrance. But time and time again he has shown the dog he possesses inside. Terrance puts it all out there. Jip's a trip. For a so called expert, the observation skills are quite lacking.

Crawford is a killer. I'm not quite sure what's going on with jip. McClellan & sal Sanchez wasted their talent.

I was a masterclass display. Before the fight, every expert was suggesting that the result would very much depend upon which version of Broner would turn up.... and I think that was a fair way to look at it.

It was acknowledged that with Broner's speed and skill set, he'd be too much for Garcia IF he was mentally up for it.

In the end, no version of Broner could have won that fight, Garcia's ability to stalk Broner within punching range and slip pretty much every punch he had showed what a class act he is. What impressed me the most was his efficiency: there was no constant movement and bending at the waist, he stayed within range and read Broner like a book, it was as if he knew what Broner was going to throw before Broner did.

To me he reinforced why boxing is such a great sport. At the top level, you can always appreciate the skill.

There is only one version of broner. He's a very consistent fighter and he has no chance at that level. Just like I told everyone before maidana. This guy got jabbed silly by Ponce DeLeon. He's a poor man's Judah and he'll never beat a top fighter. He is quite tough and shows heart, just not talented or intelligent enough for the best.

Good fight, obviously not a great fight because Garcia won it so easily.

"Boring" is a ridiculous description, as others have alluded to. If you demand cuts and concussions watch some old ECW tapes.

I was worried though I was going to watch another robbery considering Broner is a homeboy in Brooklyn. Broner can take a very good shot, he deserves credit for that. Excellent performance from Garcia.

Broner is definitely consistent. In tough fights he kind of spaces out for the majority of the bout. But, without fail, he will turn things up in the last round or two of every bout. If he fought like that for the duration of the bout, he might only have one loss on his resume. But, Mikey was right, it seems that he just stops punching when being punched at. Doen't matter if he turned things up early, late, or the entire bout against Mikey, he loses that one every day of the week.

He's at his best coming forward, trying to be Floyd was his biggest mistake because he has no defensive instincts and he thinks too much in there. I'm not saying he thinks well but there is no flow to his game. He's gotten where he has being a good athlete with a good chin.

Boring, as i said

And that's not the first time he's been in boring fights.
He gets guys out of there by sheer physical qualities; but when faced with another talent able to push him, he plays it safe.

As Holyfield rightly said, Ali would make you miss, but at the end he would always make you pay.

And i remember Mickey pointing the finger at Canelo for not being able to get Cotto out of there, or to hurt him clear.

Pot calls kettle.

Al least we have Gennady, Kudryashov, Lomachenko to look forward to.
And Matthysse is coming back.

I don't think anyone is saying its the fight of the year, but I've seen many matches that were boring, this wasn't one of them. Wasn't a lot of holding and Garcia kept throwing combos.
