What Fights Should Have Been Stopped Earlier?

We all know of fights stopped to soon, especially if the guy stopped was someone we were rooting for or we had bet on.

But what Fights Should Have Been Stopped Earlier, should be a shorter list.

Off the top of my head, Frazier-Quarry 2, and Duran-Moore went on way too long. Obviously when someone dies or gets seriously injured that is prime for the list but Duk Koo Kim didn't seem like a late stoppage at the time for example. Fire away.....

Doesn't sound like Rudy was a very good referee.

Cooney-Norton went a couple seconds too long. Mercer- Morrison could have been stopped maybe 30 seconds earlier.

I thought the Alex Garcia vs. Bernard Benton fight may have been stopped a little late.

Wow, I would have stopped that w/ about 40 seconds to go in the 2nd round or about 14:50 minutes into the tape.

Briggs getting beaten repeatedly like a drum by Vitali K springs to mind....really futile as Briggs was never going to find a clincher punch but the ref and his corner thought going the distance was 'somehow' worthwhile. Briggs took a silly, pointless hiding that night.

Yep I was about to mention that one as well.

Leavander Johnson vs Jesus Chavez. Is a fight that still sticks out to me, and is a reason why I'd never object to seeing ANY fight stopped if a fighter lost 7 or 8 rounds in a row. There was really no point here as Johnson wasn't a big puncher and couldn't win. I'll always wonder if Leavander would still be with us if they'd called it a night after 8 rounds instead of waiting until the 11th.

The fight that killed Benny Paret was absolutely ridiculous, Paret took several unanswered blows completely defenseless. There was no excuse for that, even then.

There are fights though where the result wound up being fatal and there was absolutely nobody to blame. Sugar Ramos vs Davey Moore for instance. I believe Moore had suffered some sort of spinal injury when he fell into the ropes off of one of the knockdowns. He seems completely fine after the fight, and is even saying he wants a rematch and he thinks he'll win. There was nothing there that would have lead anyone to believe he was as badly hurt as he was.

Wow...I'd never seen or heard about that before. Yeah that was terrible. He took A LOT of unnecessary punishment there. Did Benton suffer a long lasting injury as a result of that?

A lot of fights where someone died or was severely injured we obviously don't have the tape. But some we do. McClenon and Duk Koo Kim didn't look as though it went on too long at the time. What do you think? I don't think the Wille Classen fight is out there either.

I realize you weren't asking me but I am going to throw in my two cents anyway - The McClellan-Benn fight as a tragedy fight was an oddity - the big banging was certainly there but when McClellan took a knee (I suspect it was when he began feeling great pain; he puts his glove up to his face) it caught us by surprise, prompting (the ever big mouth who really shouldn't have an opinion) Ferdie Pacheco to exclaim that 'McClellan has no heart." (asshole) - but in this case McClellan actions did come as a surprise to us all; I agree - I am not sure any ref could have recognized that McClellan was in peril

Ray Robinson-Randy Turpin II. Referee was Ruby Goldstein. To be fair to Goldstein, fights were not usually stopped so soon back then.

Tate-Olajide should have been stopped. I always bring this up because I have yet to see anyone who has seen it.

I've never watched Mancini vs Duk Koo Kim. I'm very familiar with the story, and have even watched a Korean movie called "Champion" about the life of Duk Koo Kim, but I've never seen the tragic fight itself.

Kim never showed signs he should be stopped before te fight ending in my opinion, IIRC he was in the fight right up to the end pretty much (and either ahead on one card, or at least very close on the cards)
