.....or is anyone else sick of James Toney as well?!?! All this guy ever does is "Trash Talk", in Boxing News, Boxing Monthly, on SKY Boxing shows...everytime we see him he is making desperate grasps for cheap publicity, grabbing the mic of people, making outrageous claims and disregarding fellow pro's or even Boxing legends.

At first it was a novelty, good fun and made the fights interesting but after a bit it just get's tiresome...banter and whatever is one thing but this idiot tries to sink Boxing to WWF Wrestling levels or whatever that soap opera of a sport is called these days.

Toney is an undoubted talent and i enjoy watching him but he is constantly talking to people at ringside during fights and the other day at a press conference called all the other Heavyweights "Bums" and said he would beat them all...so fight them then instead of talking all the time.

And all this stuff about him being a "Born Heavyweight" or a "Naturally big guy" is bullshit IMO Toney is just a badly disciplined trainer, he is a lard arse walking around at 250 pounds plus in between fights. He aint naturally heavy, just frigging lazy.

Agreed, he will soon get beat anyway if he fights a big heavy. In his next fight because of the layoff he will probably look very bad. Might even be outworked if his stamina isn't their. Which it isn't at heavy, Booker probably won't expose it though.

Doesn't bother me really; all part of the game. Toney's not the type to call out all and sundry and then duck them, unlike some others who play the publicity game.

I don't know, Toney has just got that little glint in his eye which makes him get away with it in my opinion. He talks trash, but alot of his trash is what alot of people in boxing are too afraid to say out loud.

The shame of it is that Toney has put so much more energy into talking rather than training for the past decade or so... he has been as big a waste of talent as Hector Comatcho was in the 80s!... 8)... the fact that he can still fight so well only underlines this...

If he put as much energy into training as he does yapping he would be a flipping Bantamweight

I agree I think he is so O.T.T. that its almost tongue in cheek, doesnt get to me the way hamed did either Stu.

I also think he could get beaten by at least ten heavies - counterpunch style is all very well but the strong men of the division will walk through him.

He's a fantastic salesman. He must be: he's convince quite a few people that an aging middleweight, who never met a meal he didn't like, is the saviour of boxing's marquee division, without ever having to fight a warm heavyweight body. allegedly would be pleased with that!

He doesn't annoy me, TBH. I quite like the showmanship element. Even if he does piss you off, you're likely to watch the bill, or buy the PPV, just to see him get chinned, right? He's great self-publicist, and something different from the dreadfully dull Klitchko robots.

James Toney is my favourite overseas boxer because of his awesome skills in the ring and because of his bad ass mofo attitude outside the ring.

He has got a fight anybody, anytime, anywhere attitude and I hope he gets the chance to prove it after the Booker fight. I can't wait to see Toney in with one of the big boys such as McCline

Some of his act is tongue in cheek, some of it is genuine, he's a scary sonofabitch, and a genuine tough-nut, he's a welcome addition to the heavyweight division for me, he's got a hell of a lot more skills than most of the big guys at present,

I'm not saying that he's going to be the next big thing in the divsion, but for however much longer his career lasts, he's going to provide some much needed entertainment. I just hope he doesn't get injured again. Last time out he looked to be getting himself into fantastic shape for McCline, I hope he doesn't slack off in training for Booker, because at his age you cannot take short cuts.

I think it is doubtful whether Toney was ever a 'natural' middleweight. As he weighed over 200 lbs as a college footballer, it seems likely he was always killing himself to get down to that weight.

Interesting debate the 'natural' one.

Does this make Oscar a natural middlweight as he walks around at 160?

Or Hatton a natural Light-Middle?

At what point is a weight natural and at what point is a weight not?

I think training removes most of the significance of 'natural', if Toney trains for 10 weeks emerged weighing 197 would his natural weight be the 260lbs he walks around at or the 197 he now weighs?
