On July 30th, 1977, the great champion Carlos Monzon of Argentina made his final fight at age 35. He was defending for the 14th time the World Middleweight Championship against nemesis Rodrigo "Rocky" Valdez of Colombia. Monzon won again the rematch by UD after being floored by Valdez earlier in the fight. Monzon retires with a record of 89-3-9 with 61KOs, and did not lose a single fight in his last 80 fights!

The last time King Carlos lost a fight was on October 9th, 1964 against Alberto Massi in Cordoba, Argentina. After that, he went the last 13 years unbeaten. He also avenged the loss to Massi on December 12, 1966. And beat Massi again in the rubber match a year later.

Monzon established himself as an all-time great and one of the middleweight division greatest champions, holding the title for 7 years. Among his greatest wins were WTKO12 Nino Benvenutti, W15 Emile Griffith, WTKO6 Jose "Mantequilla" Napoles, W15 Bad Bennie Briscoe (II), and twice beating Valdez.

Not sure if it's part of the Boxrec record, but I believe he beat every man he ever fought.

No un-avenged losses is something I have read... just not sure the record reflects that.

yes he did - all three - when he lost to Antonio Aguilar (10 PTS), Aguilar was 16-0 - then when he finally caught up to him four years later Aguilar (KO 9) was still a very impressive 43-1-4 - It is hard to figure why he lost the Massi fight the first time.

Bustos finished his career with 1 win in 10 fights, 8 losses and a draw with Monzon... If Monzon beat him - Bustos would have 9 straight losses in 10 fights.

I wonder why they never had a rematch. Same with Bob Foster and Mauro Mino.

the mystifying number of "draws" that took place in Monzon's country during those years actually has an explanation.. Of course you probably know what it all means.
