Joe Joyce: road to the title shot

Both Haye and Shcaefer said that Joe Joyce will be ready for a world title challenger after 5-7 fights as a pro. Assuming 7 is more likely, how would you move Joe to the title shot to: A) give him enough rounds against different styles; B) give him a big exposure for British audience; C) put him in a positon of mandatory challenger; D) not risk too much considering that Joe was knocked out twice in the first round in 2013 by phisically strong, but limited fighters.

I'd say David Allen for the first fight is a good idea. Then he can fight Allen's conqueror Lenroy Thomas in his second pro fight for the Commonwealth title. In the third fight he can win a British title against either Cornish or Sexton. Then give him slick, elusive, defensive-minded Malik Scott in his fourth pro fight - I'm sure Joe's workrate and body punching will be enough to stop Scott, which Ortiz couldn't do. Alternative option for his fourth fight is Andriy Rudenko, who has recently went the distance against Povetkin. Then match him against Chisora in the fifth pro fight (probably for the European title). Helenius or Browne for Joyce's sixth pro fight and Carlos Takam for the seventh - title eliminator. How do you see it guys?

You've mapped it perfect really, but Dave Allen has turned it down I believe. Any other alternatives?

As for his exposure, they'll need proper advertising of his debut on Dave, SkySports backing him can catapult his popularity. Get him on BBC Breakfast if they have to, and that Clare Balding show crap.

Who knocked him out in 2013, and what were the circumstances?

Who knocked him out in 2013, and what were the circumstances?
Sergey Kuzmin and Hamza Beguerni. Both caught him with huge overhand rights. He was dropped hard twice against Kuzmin and KO'ed after two standing knockdowns against Beguerni.

Why does he have to get to world level in so few fights?

What's the point?

1) He has very good experience in 5-rounds fights in the WSB, including the ight against guys like Usyk and Hrgovic. 2) He isn't young - he will turn 32 in September. Needs to hurry up

What I'd say is more pivotal than rushing to a world title would be to just keep busy.

10 fights by the end of next year. Or at least 8 good opponents.

32 isn't that old.

Trying to win a world title within 10 fights seems like a gimmick.

It does seem rather unnecessary to get to a mandatory position within a handful of fights, even at 32 (which isn't that old for a HW) they can afford to bring him on a little slower than that; what if he gets the shot and he's just not ready?

If there is to be no messing about with Latvian uber drivers then Dominic Akinlade would be a decent first bout, pretty much on the Dave Allen level...

I agree that he needs to move quicker than most but 7 fights is ridiculous.

I personally think his style is more suited to the pros and feel he can go far, just hope Haye doesn't treat him like a pet project and mess up his career.

I think Lenroy Thomas would be a good opponent to fight within his first three.

If Dave Allen is out, I think Ian Lewison would be a good first fight.

Tough fight. But I like it. How many rounds?

It'd be minimum 6, maybe 8.

Don't think he'll win a world title in 7 fights either

I'll go out on a whim and say this plan won't happen. All well and good that he's further down the road thanks to WSB but if they take everyone here's advice and he ends up blowing out his arse in a fight against LeNroy Thomas in his second fight and then gets stopped because he hasn't been seasoned properly then it's gonna be a quick road to fighting in Leisure centres on the same card as Prince Patel.

Sssshhhh, don't give them ideas.

They'll have a WBA 5-10 fight Novice World Title belt soon

At (almost) 32 i think being in the top 10 on multiple abc rankings after ~7 fights (18months?) is a great aim.
If hes going for the British/CW titles it will have to be soon though as i imagine Warren will be looking to claim them for his young lads on BT sport.

Throw him in the deep end, go for the CW ASAP and try get a fight with Lucas Browne next summer?

Or more likely Haye brings back Mark de Mori & Arnold Gjergjaj and Joyce fights guys like that on the 5 Dave fight nights per year. :maybe:

To say he'd be ready after 5-7 fights is just laughable, in fairness I've seen him look to be gassing in the amateurs so going 12 may be a very big issue
