World Extreme Cagefighting was an mma company that focused on the four smallest weight classes in mma. What if a promoter signed up the best 10-15 fighters in each of the lowest three or four divisions and constantly matched them against each other? I chose the smallest weight classes in this scenario because they would be way cheaper to sign instead of the higher weight classes. After some success they could gradually add more weight classes. Would this model work?

You can never have something like that with the alphabet org's in charge. It would be great though. HBO is committed to 115, that's working well.

By grabbing the best 15 out of each of those weight classes they would be grabbing the world champions as well. That would set them up for a unified champion. If they were to get stripped by the major bodies no one would care because everyone would know who the true champion is.

i believe it takes either brute force by
one media, one promoter and one of
the alphabets to push one belt into the
spotlight or it takes a completely different
approach from a third party, like boxrec
to issue a belt that would gradually become
dominant.

i for one would prefer the latter since that
would still leave competition among media
and promoters in tact, while eliminating the
useless competition among sanctioning bodies.
