OK, I've been a boxing fan for 40+ years & am not against ladies boxing but am not into it either.

Anyway, I like the personalities of Clarissa Shields, Christina Hammer & Katie Taylor.

Are they similar weights & are we looking forward to some decent bird fights?

And who else should I look out for?

The P4P queen in my view is Delfine Persoon. Lightweight. The one Katie Taylor needs to fight before Persoon retires. If she does that and wins, it equals anything in her am career apart from the Gold medal.
It's rare to have what I would call entertaining female boxers, but right now there are half a dozen that I find entertaining. More power to them. The top ladies have great skills as it's hard to knock someone out in a 2 minute round so decisions are commonplace.

It's not just round length....very few have notable KO power and for me it makes it much less appealing. There are loads of fights where they continually hit each other but neither can really hurt the other, and even someone like Clarissa Shields has been unable to drop any of her opponents, despite teeing off on them with everything she's got.

Amanda Serrano is one who can bang and box.

Plenty of good, fun to watch female fighters. If you can find it Naoko Fujioka Vs Shindo Go was bloody brilliant (before Go under went realignment), Fujioka is fantastic, Juarez, Kokseki, Persoon, Farias, Braekhus

If you like power Mathis was your woman, think she's retired now though

Her opponent was way too lowly for it to gain any attention. Taylor completely overwhelmed her until her dad called it a day.

Nicola Adams fought three minute rounds in her last bout and wants to use lighter gloves, could that be a bit of a game-changer for female boxing? With Shields, Taylor and Adams there are certainly some big names for people to potentially follow thanks to Olympic exposure...

I think by now it is clear that there is a demand for women boxing. Big events can be build just like in men. The problem is that there aren't too many high level opponents for star fighters to box. But I think this will get better in time. So many promoters are jumping on the bandwagon. Must be that they smell the money.

The title of this forum says British & Irish. A new forum is a terrible idea, there is now recognisable names who are professional from both Britain (Adams, Jonas, Marshall) and Ireland (Taylor).

We should use this thread and keep it active because it will compliment the regular fight card threads, which feature Adams, Jonas and Taylor. Marshall is with Mayweather, so she will more states based you would assume.

No need to treat women's boxing any differently to men's. If the matches and quality are good I'll watch, if they're not I won't.

I don't come on this forum to talk about Hispanic boxing or boxers of the past, the same goes for women's boxing, in the name of equality give them their own forum.
However I'm not sure how popular it will be.

I know nothing about it, I did just hear that Floyd signed the only woman to beat Shields. She's turning pro on his undercard, anyone know anything about her?

I've no interest in seeing females fighting in a ring or the street. I think it's a horrible sight. I think they should be free to box if they want and respect anyone that steps in a ring but I don't want to watch it.

I'm just not into it myself. Usually the female fighters who are particularly talented have no interesting competition to face they just keep dominating overmatched opponents.

Like the last guy I don't fault any Woman who wants to compete, but it's never gonna be something I have much interest in.

Look at the girl Claressa Shields just fought, and how unskilled she was. This girl was 16-0...she looked like she'd never fought before, that's how uncoordinated and unskilled she was. The fact that SHE beat 16 girls is a huge indication of the wholesale lack of skill, and coordination that is rampant amongst MOST women boxers.

There are exceptionally skilled Female boxers that come along from time to time, but like I said usually when they do they're so overwhelmingly better than their competition that it's just one massacre after another.

The one Female Boxing match that was intriguing, and actually something I would've wanted to see was Laila Ali vs Anne Wolfe. That would've been interesting. Laila decided she'd rather keep her face intact, and go into other avenues of money making. I can't fault her for that, but along with her lack of interest in a real challenge went my interest in Women's boxing. The 2 best I'd seen didn't fight each other, and there was no excuse for not doing so except that one of them (Laila) thought the possibility was high she might lose this one. No reason to care if the best aren't gonna fight each other.
