Has GGG been getting beaten up lately ?

GGG was invincible 5 minutes ago.
On the face of it the Kell Brook bout didn't take much out of him except his face showed signs of wear and tear afterwards.
Then there was Danny Jacobs, that surprised us didn't it.
Is GGG made of the tough stuff at the top level ?

He stopped Kell Brook inside 5 rounds, and won 3 of the 5 rounds clearly. He knocked down, and bruised up Danny Jacobs, legitimately deserving the nod in a hard fought contest. Danny Jacobs is a legitimately tough opponent, and I think would be a handful for Canelo as well...hell he might be too much for Canelo.
Canelo is an entirely different kind of style match up from these two for one thing. In my opinion stylistically the two fighters GGG and Canelo are similar, it's just that GGG is better at it. On top of that he's the stronger of the two in my opinion. Canelo has youth on his side, and he's gonna need it because he's gonna be in for a hell of a tough night.

He doesn't seem the same boxer that went into the Kell Brook fight.
You can say Jacobs this and Jacobs that but not many had GGG beating Danny Jacobs did they ?

Plenty of people had him beating Jacobs. Even if you assume he deserved to lose, I dont see how the fight suggested a lack of toughness. He took good shots from a big puncher yet was never clearly hurt.

Jacobs skipped the IBF weigh-in the day of the fight. GGG had to overcome Jacobs' weight advantage. GGG still deserved to win in my opinion.

Never clearly hurt ?
Don't know about that.

When I first saw the Jacobs fight I thought maybe a draw. Second watch I had Golovkin up by one or two. Close fight. Frustrating fight. Jacobs was smart. He assumed the role of the boxer rather than the boxer puncher IMO. As for GGG. Regardless of what people say about his fans making excuses for him...regardless..you cannot discount the factors of age and wear and tear. Those are real things. I cringe when i see him pounding the hard concrete on the youtube clips of him training, I mean come on. Just run on grass or something. I hope he can deliver in September, hes a very hard tough man with an intelligent and effective boxing style, I believe he can but its not easy feat.

And Canelos skipping it to I believe. Golovkin should skip it himself, get more rest in. But it's probably in the contract somewhere that he "can't".

Get more rest in ... he need a nap ?
What's he doing that day that will require an energy surge ?
Is he going shopping ?

Can't play it back but there were certain moments when GGG reacted to power.
There wasn't that all out march forward attitude about him.

He fought a measured fight, and was doing so early on before Jacobs really threw anything of note.

...just to remind some boxing fans that (according to boxrec):
"IBF title at stake for Golovkin only, as Jacobs did not show up for the morning of the fight IBF second weigh-in required 170 pounds or less. Golovkin weighed in at 169.6 pounds on the second day weigh in, while Jacobs was estimated weighing around 180 pounds during the fight. There was a noticeable size advantage for Jacobs."
PS: I believe the alphabets should take a lot tougher stance to avoid these descrepancies in the future..

Yes, that is true. The IBF talked about it at their convention a few months ago. If I remember correct, Jacobs' weight was stated as being 181. People don't often talk about this weight disparity. There is so much talk about GGG in decline. I thought he deserved to win and most people did too, although some people think Jacobs should have won.

If Canelo skips it, then he does not care about winning the IBF title and, like Jacobs, he wants to have any advantage possible. GGG wants to retain the title, so he will follow their rules. I don't think it is in the contract that he cannot skip the IBF's same day weight check. Canelo knows that GGG wants to keep that title. Canelo just wants to win, so he will do it by any means necessary.

Can't believe that we still have haters that say Jacobs 'won' just because he went 12 rounds with GGG. Golovkin gave a boxing lesson to Jacobs by using his jab, footwork and defense. Not to mention that Jacobs had the weight of a rehydrate smw in that fight.

Ok I might have gotten confused...ah the article i read a while back...
http://www.BS.com/golovkin-pro ... ts--118953 says Canelo will not be fighting for the IBO. So its the IBF with the same day weigh in not the IBO, which apparently Canelo will be fighting for...but who knows if he'll show up as you say.

Yes, more than half had GGG beating Jacobs. I had GGG beating Jacobs. There wasn't much cry of robbery there. Maybe 1 out of 4 boxing fans had it for Jacobs. While I thought he fought well, I had it close, but clear for GGG.

Confused with the OP here, has he been beaten up lately. Jacobs fought a smart fight vs golovkin but I saw no signs of distress from ggg that he was getting beat up. Let's not forget Jacobs is a top performer at 160 and probably beats anyone but ggg. I actually scored a draw but only watched it on my iPhone so not confident I saw all the punches on the small screen
The fight before was a dust up with brook that didn't last too long. Brook had his moments but the fight was less than halfway. So it's no gatti vs ward type war
All the fights before we're completely his own way
When has he been beaten up?

In an odd way I think the Brook fight was a bit of a watershed moment for GGG.
Brook was clearly out of his depth...but for quite a lot of the time the fight lasted, he showed that GGG was not invincible. He landed regularly with a variety of punches and highlighted the often talked about lack of head movement. If he had size and power it could have been interesting.
Brook did not have the power, durability or size to follow through and really trouble GGG; who showed that when all else fails, he has the firepower to just bang opponents out. But I think the fight changed a lot of opinions about GGG and showed others that if they have the physical tools, GGG is beatable.
Having said that...I don't think this is a new development. GGG has always been relatively easy to hit, he has just reached a level of opponent who do it a bit more often. But lets be real, nobody has come remotely close to hurting him yet.
I believe the key to beating him is not power, but speed. Brook showed that hand speed is the way to get to him. In a shootout I would favour GGG with just about anyone. But against a proper middleweight with quick hands...I could see him get outboxed.

Yeah, I would actually pick Jacobs to beat Canelo at MW (assuming fair judges, of course).

Honestly, I don't think Canelo cares about getting any belt of the sanctioning bodies. As long as Canelo wins, he will retain his Ring Magazine middleweight title. Of course, we know that Ring is owned by Oscar De La Hoya. Canelo left the middleweight division and went to super welterweight, yet he still is Ring middleweight champ. Canelo may choose not to participate in the IBF's same day weight check and therefore would not be eligible to win that title. However, Golden Boy Promotions said that Canelo will weigh in on the second day, so we'll see. Canelo said that he will not accept the WBC title and he is not interested in the IBO title either, so he will not pay them their fees. If Canelo skips the IBF weigh in, then he would only be able to win the WBA title assuming he paid them the fees.

I agree with that. Would also add that later in fights as Canelo tires, he tends to stand in the pocket and trade, which would be end of the fight for him as far as I am concerned.

Team GGG and the boxing fraternity expected Jacobs to not bother contending for the IBF belt, because after all, the bout was mandated by the WBA.
Everyone from Team GGG claimed that Jacobs weighing more than 170lbs was not a issue, so why are you claiming that Golovkin had to overcome some sort of Herculean weight disadvantage in order to compete in some sort of mythical David versus Goliath type fight?
