The new BoxRec color scheme...

The "last 6" won-lost green-red boxes: I am partially color blind (quite common amongst men) and it is now difficult for me to distinguish the wins from losses whereas it used to be obvious.
Not sure which forum to post this on, so i guess it can be moved if this is the wrong place.

Seconded. At a glance it's very tricky to see the win/loss of the last 6 with colour blindness.

It's the common red-green color blindness and they've used just the shades of red and green that are difficult for us to distinguish.

I have the same problem x2x.

The lowercase 'L' for 'Lost' is very annoying, too. It looks like an I. The whole site is just not designed with the end user in mind.

That annoyed me too - so i whipped up a quick mockup for a potential Boxrec redesign:
http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=214052
The colour-blind issue never crossed my mind though. What if red dots for Loss had a small X in the middle?

Yeah, your design is better than the current one. I would move the logo to the left and put the search box with the login and register links on the right, and reduce the whitespace above and below the logo. I would also reduce the whitespace above the boxer's name. If you're viewing a boxer's record, it shouldn't be so far down the page.
I think your design of the table is miles better than the current version. If they were to make one change, that would be it for me.

Thanks for feedback. Yeah i think perhaps logo is better topleft - i just felt like shaking it up somewhat.
I'm a fan of whitespace, easier on the eyes - perhaps i've overcompensated though with the current layout being so cramped. 1 potential idea is to have the header 'shrink' but fixed when the user scrolls down.

If you're interested in web design, I recommend reading about the Nielsen rules, Welie's web patterns etc.
The convention is that the logo has to be on the top-left while the search is on the top-right. Conventions are there for a good reason: Users need to find everything relevant at first glance (scanning phase) and that only happens when items are located in places where you expect them (based on standards).
Other things:
- you don't have a breadcrumb-trail (home > current scene...) which is vital for orientation.
- there is no clear and consistent alignment in your mock up. Try to draw lines to arrange sections and you'll quickly see what's wrong.
- colours: the current boxrec-forum is sub-optimal when it comes to using colour schemes (monochromatic, complementary, triad, analogue), yours is better in that regard.
One easy way to pick a colour scheme is to use an HSB-editor and pick one hue, all other colours used are of the same hue and only saturation and brightness are varied. That a monochromatic scheme. If you want more punch, then pick one hue and another being on the exact opposite of the colour circle. Use those two hues and for the rest variations in saturation and brightness. Ideally one hue dominates and the other accentuates.
There are myriad other things to consider of course.

I'm a web designer. Centered logo's are more common now as we transition from web to apps - but sure iys just a mockup and could be reverted to conventional left side.
As for the breadcrums amd colours, it wasn't my intention to redesign from scratch, but to simply rework the current format.

Another thing: were is the biographic info page? It used to be easy to switch between the fighter's boxing record page and his bio info page, but now I can't even find it. The BoxRec layout was great before. Everything seems ruined now. Why?

The Tale of the Tape should also be on the main page where it used to be. Having to go back and forth between pages for a couple pieces of information is very annoying. The aesthetics of the site does look better, but some of the practical stuff should have been kept the same.

next to the boxers names you got an image of a book - it is how you can went to the fighters bio.

Already used to it. Didn't like it at first but it is what it is.

Yeah I'm colourblind and it's a bugger to read now - had no problem with it before

The colour-blind issue never crossed my mind though. What if red dots for Loss had a small X in the middle?
I'm also slightly colour blind, so I'd like to see something similar to Excel's icon indicators where different shapes are used in conjunction with different colours. For example, a green circle for a win, an amber triangle for a draw, a red diamond for a loss.

If we must stick to red and green, the shapes are a very good idea.

Here's another new thing: There's an asterisk next to some fighter's names but no footnote explanation as to what the asterisk means. Sample:
http://boxrec.com/en/ratings?offset=&se ... iserweight
What do the asterisks mean?

How's a guy supposed to know that? If you have an asterisk there should be a footnote explaining it. Make BoxRec like it was before, please. It was better before.

I can easily distinguish those W-L colors, but what color would you use for draws? I also agree with uppercase W-L-D looking much better.

Not just here; I see asterisks all the time with no explanation. I also like old version better.

Same here. More and more, in different places, I encounter asterisks and footnotes but with no explanation for them!

Another thing: Look at where it says "division" up on top. It says something in some unknown language. All of the boxers have that now.
