How far down the ratings would Conor need to go to find somebody he could beat ?

What kind of answer are you expecting? Nobody knows, he's an unknown quantity. He's a world class athlete in another combat sport though, if he could cut the weight i'd be inclined to believe he'd beat the likes of Skeete.

Who is the best striker (in terms of punching) he's beaten in MMA?

I have seen plenty of world class kickboxers fall way short of reaching a high level in boxing, so his striking success in MMA doesn't really convince me that he could step into boxing and after a fight or two beat someone like Skeete, who is about 5 inches taller and has comfortably outboxed the current EBU champ. He's still a bit of a mystery as a boxer, so it's hard to pick an exact level for him, but all the sparring footage I've seen suggests that he's just looking to land that left hand without much to set it up, which gives him the look of a rather limited boxer. Even a one-handed bomber like Adonis Stevenson has a good jab to go with his money punch...

I don't really follow boxing at small hall level so I'm expecting an answer that reflects someone's knowledge of boxers further down the pecking order.

He'd barely land a glove on Skeete imo.

Its one of those questions which is impossible to answer.

I'm not interested the the fight as a boxing match but im interested to see how far Conor can go. If he goes one round and gets sparked what does that prove? It proves nothing because he is making his debut as a professional boxer. If he takes Mayweather 5 rounds what does that prove? I think that proves he isnt a bad debutant.

Having seen the Conor training sessions I dont see anything that makes me believe that this debutant will be going 5 rounds.

So realistically making your professional debut against a 'legend' is kind of like walking across a motorway blindfolded. The fight shouldnt be happening, it should never have been sanctioned by anyone. Boxing is a dangerous sport and weve seen experienced boxers with many amateur and professional fights behind them seriously injured or killed.

This is just a big money making fight and i'm sure Conor knows his limits and won't be getting into a potentially dangerous combat situation. He will taste a bit of leather and fall.

If however on the otherhand he knocks Mayweather out it will be the biggest upset in boxing history. Not only that it will make Mayweather a laughing stock.

Hard to tell, One thing I do know is if mcgregor can spark Aldo like that I'd pick most top quality boxers with decent power to do the same at good boxer would be able to time that lunge every day of the week. Of course question is would an MMA fighter try and stay on their feet or look to go to ground straight away if a boxer entered the octagon?

Ronda tried standing up against a boxer and was made to look silly yet other fighters have taken Holmes out by going to ground.

A bit off topic but watching brock lesnar running away from punches in the octagon and getting battered for it made me think that an explosive boxer like a prime David Haye would have destroyed him. But MMA is all about fighting styles with counter act other styles. I would really like to see an explosive powerful boxer in with a striker in the octagon.

indeed. It's unthinkable but it would destroy Floyds legacy and probably result in Conor vs Pacman.

I'd like to say all of the top ten. We wil know better after his first boxing match. I know one thing, boxing is paying him more than UFC. If he does well, he will have another fight. Well meaning not knocked out early.

Holly got lit up on the feet by Shevchenko, and was having trouble with abysmal Bethe Correia til she landed the big head kick. She's the best boxer to successfully transition to MMA...and she hasn't done that well to be honest.

Boxing and MMA are just different sports. Brock "running away from punches" came against Cain when he was suffering badly from diverticulitis. He just wasn't as good as Cain, but Cain stuffed his takedowns in order to keep the fight on the feet. David Haye wouldn' be stuffing takedowns.

You probably have to see him actually box first.
Let me know how he goes, I have to wash.my hair that night..

See, I disagree. I don't think McGregor knows his limits.The only thing I'm convinced of about this fight is that McGregor 100% believes (without a shadow of doubt) that he is going to win. I watched his media scrum and, if nothing else, his level of self belief is mesmerizing.

Haye, by his own admission, when training with British MMA fighters like James Zikic was finding himself getting taken down eight out of ten times, and Lesnar's wrestling is on a different level from that of someone like James Zikic .

Mcgregor v Eggington would probably be a very boxing match actually. My guess is thats the level. Even Eggington I would give a 15% chance of beating current Mayweather just on the inactivity/age of Mayweather.
That equates to an 11/2 chance, which is what the original Mcgregor price was when the fight wad made. Hype and recreational money/bookmaker liabilities has reduced the price of Mcgregor down to 7/2. This is all normal, same happened with Pac/Mayweather.

Who knows? He's never boxed before. Ergo, it's like talking about whether anybody about to make their professional debut has the ability to go far.

that would imply he would win roughly once in every 6.5 fights. Not sure i'd even give Brook as much of a chance.

you cant tell me a debutant boxer can possibly think hes better than a 49-0 world champion. Conor will know his limits purely on his own ability and how he's been training and sparring. Its absolutely foolish for him to honestly believe he is better than Mayweather. I dont honestly think the fight will be anything special.

If Conor had the ability to be a world class boxer he would have become one. He went down the mma route instead. Unless the fight is bent I think he has less than a 5% chance of winning against Mayweather or really anyone at a reasonably high level in boxing.

How do you know he would've become a boxer from the start? Some people are just drawn more to other forms of fighting...
