Just thinking whats the odds these two form some kind of promo outfit after this, putting on cross mma/boxing cards. Floyds got a stable already, Conor now has 100M to put an MMA one together. Between the two of them they aim to put golden boy etc out of business and offer big money contracts to poach UFC guys. One of those 'by the fighters for the fighters' type outfits.

They both seem like smart guys and both obviously ambitious, seems to me with a few hundred mill in seed money they could put something serious together? Maybe thats been the plan all along?

How would they bypass the UFC contracts?

Recently the UFC was sold for $4Billion. Since then Rousey has left, Jones has tested positive for steroids AGAIN & several other promising fighters have stumbled. There is no way that they'll let the only big star walk away.

Plus the UFC has legendary iron tight contracts including a champions clause that stops champions running out their contracts & carries on even if they "retire". Randy Couture tried this hoping to secure a mega fight with Fedor outside of the Octagon & instead ended up tied up in the courts before finally returning to the UFC with his tail between his legs.

HOWEVER the new owners are looking to make some of their money back which is why this fight is happening in the first place so wouldn't surprise me if this wasn't their last outing into boxing. I could certainly see some UFC/ Boxing crossovers in the future whether its more UFC fighters trying their hand in the boxing ring (Obviously the much talked Anderson Silva vs. Roy Jones has taken too long to happen), boxing guys stepping into the Octagon or a mixed card of MMA & Boxing (Bellator does this with Kickboxing using an arena with both a cage & a separate ring set up.

Also no matter what is being said Conor isn't returning to MMA if he can make considerably more boxing. A grudge match with Paulie if he loses & IF he wins there are several huge fights they could make.

Buying out of a contract, is different from walking away from one. They might have a clause in the contract that he (or another promotional company) can buy out of it. Even Messi has such a clause at Barca.

What a stupid set up that is. The UFC should want their stars to fight fights like Couture-Fedor.

Obviously fans wanted that fight but as a business why would they let one of your biggest stars & then Heavyweight Champion go off to fight a very dangerous fight on a rival promoters show? Sadly MMA is still very much in the dark ages when it comes to cross promotion.

M1 Global tried a lot of moves to make the Couture/ Fedor fight, doesn't appear that UFC contracts have that as an option.
