Derevyanchenko vs Johnson

Wow! Tureano took so many power punches both into the head and the body and kept coming and throwing for 11 rounds. Sergey was clearly committing into most of his punches, but they didn't have expected effect. A few times he threw 6-7 power punch combinations landing most of them, but Johnson wasn't visibly hurt. The stoppage seemed a little premature, but huge cudos to both fighters.

I think Sergey's power was somewhat overrated.

Premature? They needed to stop the fight way sooner. Derevyanchenko was kicking his ass the entire fight pretty much. I only gave Johnson one round in the entire fight.

Yes, Johnson won a couple rounds at most, but he was fighting and trying to stop Derevyanchenko who was tired. He deserved to be given his chance to keep trying for 2 more minutes.

He was getting his ass kicked. I'd have stopped it after the 9th if I'd have been in his corner. Would've been completely stupid to let it continue any further. He was beyond finished.

Also Johnson's left eye was badly cut and swelling. He can sure take a punch though. D was hitting him with everything but the kitchen sink. That's the kind of fight, tho, that can scramble your brain and mess you up and make you into a walking vegetable. What a fight! No clinching, non stop action. Fight of the year I think.

Not even close.

It was solid, fun to watch. Too one sided to be Fight of the Year. Hell it's not even gonna be the Fight of the Week in all likelihood.

I agree with you that's the kinda fight that can scramble your brain. That's why I'd have stopped it sooner.

Maybe so, but what's gonna beat it out for "fight of the week", that stupid phony crap with Mayweather tomorrow?

Ugas vs Dulorme or Badou Jack vs Nathan Cleverly stands a good chance at it.

I've never seen Cotto in a bad fight either so Cotto vs Kamegai might do it.

Those fights didn't even happen yet. Maybe those will be fight of the year and beat out tonight's great non stop action fight, and who knows maybe even the Mayweather thing will, but that's all in the future.

They didn't, but Luis Nery vs Shinsuke Yamanaka has happened this month. That was better than Johnson vs Derevyanchenko.

I didn't see that one. OK, will you settle for Fight of the Day?

Whew! Thanks! I was already working out my fallback positions - Oklahoma Fight of the Day, Miami Oklahoma Fight of the Day...

 It was bound to fit somewhere.

Most importantly it moved Derevyanchenko up a few spots in the Middleweight rankings, and is his best win to date.

The fight should have been stopped by Johnson's corner after the 9th, and every round on. He had zero chance to win on the cards or get the stoppage. His corner had no logical game plan to get the win either. Terrible corner work.

Yeah I would've called it a night after the 9th I think.

This fight was over in the first minute when Johnson gave up
His 7 inch reach immediately, choosing to fight in a phone booth against a powerhouse with t-Rex arms. Dereveryanchenko is pretty good but his short ass arms will do him in against a quick boxer that makes him move laterally.

Derevyanchenko has that sick style of offense mixed with lateral movement of some of his fellow countrymen. Whoever taught them that school of boxing deserves some serious kudos. Anatoly Lomachenko perhaps.

Johnson was a good punching bag.
