CONOR McGregor defied all expectations by taking Floyd Mayweather to the 10th round and some stunning punch statistics reveal just how impressive the performance was.
While the Irish UFC star was beaten by TKO in Sunday’s megabout in Las Vegas, he landed 117 shots on the man regarded as the greatest defensive boxer of all-time.
That’s 30 more punches than Filipino legend Manny Pacquaio managed against Mayweather and only six less than Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez did in their 2015 fight.
Granted, McGregor faced a 40-year-old Mayweather and the American was much closer to his prime when he beat Pacquaio in May, 2015.
But it’s still a staggering statistic considering McGregor was making his boxing debut.
Mayweather outlanded McGregor 170-111. That advantage was built in the later rounds, as McGregor had a 42-28 advantage in punches landed after four rounds.
Pacquiao was among the many to pay tribute to both fighters, as others pointed out this fight had far surpassed Mayweather v Pacquaio as a spectacle.
In taking his win-loss record to 50-0, Mayweather broke the record of former heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano (49-0) for most wins without a loss or tie in boxing history.
According to CompuBox research, Mayweather became only the sixth championship-level fighter to win 50 consecutive fights to start his career — after Julio Cesar Chavez (87 wins), Nino Benvenuti (65), Willie Pep (62), Carlos Zarate (52) and Tom Bogs (52).

Floyd wasn't serious in there. Get real.
Against Manny, he was locked in defensively from round 1.

Mayweather delivered on his promise. He talked the talk and walked the walk. He gave us our moneys worth. He came to punch. He goes out on a high. Conor.....well, I respect him more after hearing what he had to say post fight although he didnt walk the talk and really, he had to respect Floyd after what the 40 years old May did to him. I'll watch this fight again one day, in the future, it was entertainment delivered. I believe its good for boxing. Clean and multiple blows to the head and body, thats entertaining..thats boxing.

What Floyd did to Mcgregor is zero impressive if you can imagine what a 40 year old Duran would have done to Mcgregor.

Compubox is a bad joke and should be binned. Pacquaio clearly outlanded Floyd. For compubox to get they numbers for McG they must've been counting slaps to the back of the head.

Ok true. Duran would have done it drunk too. But...this was entertaining, I'm happy.

Conor was very respectful at the post fight conference, great to see that side. He got himself into the position to get the payday which is quite something.
Floyd didn't seem to come out of first or second gear all night long and put on the show the fans from both sides paid to see. It was a successful circus show and everybody walks away with something to talk about for a few days.

I'm happy Floyd won also my man. It was a win for boxing. I'm just not over excited by his win. It should've been so much more epic. Credit to Floyd doing the biz at 40 after being out for 2 years but he's one of our ATG's so it's expected. There's just other boxing greats at similar weights that would've fvcking smashed Mcgregor with ease, even at 40. Floyd be Floyd though.

What a frustrating fight to watch. It was a joke really. Floyd didn't look serious about the fight from the start. I was hoping that McGregor would land a lucky punch and drop him to force Floyd to get serious. The end to me was even more frustrating for it to be stopped when it was. McGregor was tired, yes, but they should have let it go until he was on the canvas. Total crap fight. Glad I didn't pay for it. They are both laughing on the way to the bank.

Floyd revealed his strategy that he wanted to make Conor tire. Floyd knew that Conor tires after five 5 minute rounds in MMA which is 25 minutes. 8 rounds in boxing is 24 minutes. Floyd hurt Conor in round nine which led to the stoppage in round ten. The judges were horrible though and Conor would have no chance to win even if it went the distance. The scoring should have been a lot closer than that. I think Conor is going to stay in boxing and fight Miguel Cotto next. That is my prediction. It will be Cotto's last fight and he is looking to get one final payday, so Conor would be the logical choice. They just fought in the same weight class.

All doubt is now removed - Compubox has ZERO credibility. May aswell play bingo to get the punch numbers. McGregor landed nothing like 100 punches.

So what. A 40 year old Duran beat much better fighters than Mcgregor. If it wasn't for the corrupt judges Duran would have had a win over Hector Comacho when he was 45 years old.

You must watch a completely different Mayweather to the millions of the rest of us. Mayweather was NEVER a dancer / runner a la Ali, or Leonard. He has " educated " feet, and avoids shots by simply taking a small step to either the left or right, or a step or 2 back, to maintain the distance that he is happy with between himself and the other guy, so they have to lunge forward and he can nail them with counters.
I watching Leonard/Haggler the other day and was thinking the same thing.
Floyd did a lot less "running" than people think.

Ali and SRL relied on their athleticism. Money relies on his technical skill. His hand speed strikes me as average for a boxer.

Conor tires after about a round and a half - 2 rounds in MMA which is about what Floyd gave him(3 rounds).
Conor goes nowhere near any other boxer. Mayweather kicked his ass and played with him while walking him down. Imagine what a bigger guy who actually fights like that will do.

I'm not even gonna bother continuing to explain to people that Mayweather could've dominated McGregor far easier if he'd wanted to. If they wanna believe that McGregor is a really good boxer, and he could beat other boxers let them.
Just remember this: Yordenis Ugas and Thomas Dulorme. The guys that Main Evented the Prelim show. Would both OWN Conor McGregor like he wasn't sh*t.

I would say above average. But the timing of his punches even surprises the viewer. So it looks faster than it is.
And he also throws real punches.
A guy like Khan looks like he has faster hands, but he's just flailing his hands around for speed.

The fact Money relies on technical skill gives him a longer shelf life than most reflex boxers. I can see why a prime Ali or SRL were more fan friendly even if they were "runners" because it's aesthetically pleasing to see some guy taking pot shots and circling around a guy chasing him.
