Mayweather vs. McGregor: Official Scorercards

by Ruthless-RKO
Indeed, such was the slow start made by Mayweather, the busier McGregor took a number of rounds on the cards of scoring judges Dave Moretti, Burt Clements, and Guido Cavalleri.

With the American not throwing for the entire first minute and subsequently throwing just six punches, McGregor won the opening round on all three cards.

Moretti would then also give McGregor the second and third rounds. However the tide turned in the fight and Mayweather began to turn the screw down the stretch.

Aside from Moretti’s view on the second and third, ‘Money May’ claimed every other round.

After a dominant ninth round, both Moretti and Cavalleri scored the stanza 10-8 in favour of Mayweather despite their being no knockdown.

The cards at the time of the stoppage for the nine completed rounds were:
Dave Moretti – 87-83 Mayweather
Burt Clements – 89-82 Mayweather
Guido Cavalleri – 89-81 Mayweather

All three of them were biased. Steve Farhood scored it much closer than that.

Thought McGregor won the 2nd. 10-8 in the 9th is unusual is bullshit imo, see rounds like that every week that are rarely scored 10-8.

I'll score a round 10-8 if 1) there's a knockdown, of course, or 2) if I think its so one-sided the ref may stop it.

88-82 or 87-83 (with the 9th being a 10-8 round) are the only scores that I could consider reasonable.

Anyone that genuinely believes the scoring should have been much closer are either deluded or are allowing their extreme bias to blind themselves to the events that actually took place in the real world.

These referees watched another fight, first few rounds were for McGregor.

87-84 FMJ

I can't see a 10-8 in the 9th, and there is no way in hell FMJ won any of the first three rounds. He simply got out worked, while waiting for McG's arms to get heavy.

Hard to think of an easier fight to score.

I think that it is pretty obvious that FMJ likely could have stopped him anytime from the 5th on. The fact is though, Conor can always claim that in his first and only professional boxing match he won rounds off of FMJ, an ATG. :OhYes:

I will just go by rounds. I had Money 7-2 after 9. I gave McGregor the first two rounds.

What was the justification for giving Money round one ?

I had it 86-85 Floyd coming to the 10th, but the writing was on the wall from the 7th round onward.

Most rounds were close and thus open for interpretation. Of course bias will lead towards Mayweather because that's who should dominate the fight. I would give McGregor 2-3 rounds.
In the end the fight was decided by Mayweather's composure and efficient usage of stamina and McGregor's fatigue. I don't buy into the apologetic theory that Mayweather played with McGregor. You don't just let yourself get punched 117 times for fun. McGregor deserves all the respect in the world. Mayweather was also pretty great considering his age and semi-retirement status.

I guess we can all agree that this fight was sooooo much better and closer than anyone with a sane mind had anticipated.

I got caught up in the emotion the first time plus I watched it on a small screen. Just watched it again. McGreggor won the first 2 rounds thats it, with his keep away jab and straight while Floyd didnt punch. Mayweather blocked far, far more then I realised, basically only a handful of McGreggors punches landed early on, everything else was on the glove/partial or just weak and walked through. Floyd pulled back with the head at time which looked like Conor was tagging him with a jab but it wasn't doing shite. Floyd was in no harm whatsoever in the first 3 or further. Just very relaxed, sparring, walking him down. On second view really doesnt bode well for Conor, I thought he was the ufc most devastating puncher, didnt make a dent in him, of the punchers that landed.

The biggest myth of all was Conor had a punchers chance.

What a nut hugger, of course Mayweather won but McGregor gave him some hard shots that hurt him.

Sorry mate, didnt hurt him at all. Did nothing to him. Watch the fight again, watch the effective blocking by Floyd in the first 3. Then watch every other round and see a McConor being dominated.

Can I please have a McConor with cheese and fries.

True, I believed it. He looked massive in there. Maybe I've read too many of Jips comments haha.

I knew the scores were going to be f'd up and a non factor anyhow but Floyd didn't even land a punch in the first 4 rounds but somehow he wins most of those rounds with the judges. HHAHA. Such a joke. I was not surprised but you know the cards are f'd up when Morretti has the most sensible score out of the three.

If GGG sees Morretti scoring his fight at ringside next month, he'll know he needs a KO because he's in Canelo's pocket too.

McCregor won round 1,2,3 after that it was all Floyd.
I thought Connor did pretty good. Better than I thought.

He would knock you out. :-P
Punching power always depends on the target. Floyd knows how to mitigate the effect of punches by moving his head properly. Had he been as stationary of a target as Conor was in the second half, Floyd would have gotten into trouble. You can't hurt what you can't hit cleanly though.

As for what Conor said before the fight: He did what he had to do to sell the fight and he was brilliant at it. Floyd isn't a great talker, his fists do the talking. So Conor had to sell the fight and he delivered on all accounts.

Of course the scorecards are not important when a fight ends via TKO and obviously Floyd wasn't going to let the judges decide.

..that's pretty much the way I saw it..looked like a chess game to me where the grandmaster figured the novice out in the first 3-4 rounds and then was gradually taking him apart..

There was one key moment, I believe at the end of round 3 which tells the whole story of the bout.
Conor was obviously instructed to counter Floyd with an uppercut and a small combo each time Floyd closes the distance. In the early rounds he was very successful with that one-dimensional approach. Then suddenly when Floyd feinted closing in and Conor again reacted with the uppercut, Floyd looked at Conor like he was saying "I figured you out, now I'm going to pick you apart".

I immediately thought this was going to be the turning point. Conor was still looking good for 1-2 more rounds after that but he didn't win anything afterwards.

:TU:

I'm wondering where were these 111 punches landed on Floyd? Did they count the behind the head pity pats too?

I thought Connor won the first 2 rounds, third round was close and then Floyd won the remainder of the fight pretty easily.

I barely paid attention to this whole fight from the beginning, so much so I didn't even know what the rules were. Now that I realised it was a boxing match, I think it's time for Floyd to retire. A guy who was not a pro boxer lasted almost 10 rds with him, that's a pretty poor performance.
