I want to box....

But I'm a pussy!

No, ok I'm not...... I don't mind getting hit in the face of I'm honest.

I've been hit twice as an adult in my life (in fights) it hurt, as you would expect, but I had been drinking both times and it didn't bother me too much - but taking one sober I guess is going to hurt a lot more.

I've knocked one guy out (or down) over a table once (he did a proper Hollywood fight scene fall) and the other guy I traded shots with but it kinda got split up before anyone could be called the victor.

I'm quiet and unassuming, but have always fancied myself as a fighter I just wish my parents had pushed me in that direction in my youth.

I'm athletic, have fast hands.... I actually stand in front of mirrors and shadow-box - I sound like a right cock don't i!

But I'm not.... Do all boxing fans do this? Is it something ingrained in our souls that we think we have possibly missed the boat so to speak and could have been a contender to paraphrase a famous line or am I just going through a mid-life crisis? :maybe:

Have do other boxing fans feel about this?

Have you ever had the urge to do white collar for example? Or have many actually got the balls for it?

Am I a one-off on this then?

I thought on a boxing forum there would be many a kindred spirit - but obviously not? :maybe:

Floyd is looking to fight people with your type of experience!
Obv it's hard and not for everyone, but give it a go, pay to go to a gym and you will get looked after and you can see if you get used to getting hit in the head..

I imagine that there are many people with the same feelings, though I boxed and have a good idea of my strengths, limitations, and how far I could’ve gone.

I'm a 'what if?' guy when it comes to sumo

Just go and find yourself a boxing gym ... walk in ... sign up ... watch ... listen ... don't say much ... (in fact don't say anything) ... find yourself a trainer or sign up for a basic class if they have one ... and do what your told ... and remember ... boxing is fun ... :) ...

I think deep down we all think we are fighters but if we were then we would already be in the game and not posting about what if's on a boxing forum. Its a hard game to do in the paid ranks or even for free in the amateurs. If i was you i would join a local gym and do a few workouts and if your good enough the trainer will let you know. Alternatively if you just wanna av a scrap there are plenty of white collar or unlicenced events up and down the country mate

I know exactly how you feel. I went to a friends BBQ before the Mayweather McGregor fight with a few kick boxers present. The gloves came out and we did some sparring and also some pad work.
I've never done this before but have always loved watching boxing.
My first thought was how knackering it was and also how much fun the sparring was. They went very easy on me, but said I should go down the club for boxing training as I wasn't too bad. Btw I'm 46, play county squash so have fitness, but realise my best days are behind me

Iv loved boxing since watching the rocky films back in about 1982-83 so i was about 6-7 when i turn 9 i went down the local boxing club said i 1mwas 10 so i could join went for a couple of times but it was about a mile and half from were i lived so as most 9 year olds would i left and didnt start back till i was about 11,in between tho i was always running and having competitions with my brother how many sit ups or oress ups we could do,then i left again and went back about a year later cause a lad from school was going,i ended up sparring him(not my first spar as i had been loads of times in the past and took a few on the nose and gave a few) anyway i lost my footing in the spar and ended up tripping up and falling over,he looked to the trainer with this big smile on his face and the trainer lokked back at him as if to say "nice one son" i was pleading my case that i got my feet tangled anyway,in school i had abit of a rep of beeing a decent little boxer and a handy lad for my age, this clown had gone round the school saying he knocked me down in a spar,so next time we get in the ring ut didnt last a round,i smashed the little pr1ck in and was fckin made up with myself cause i taught this muppet a lesson. Anyway then i went to fender valley abc on the ford estate birkenhead sparred a good few lads there had my medical went to a show in shotton were i was meant to fight, this was it i was 14 and i had trained for years and not been pushed for a fight before,i was excited and very nervous, gets to the show and no one my weight 8st was there so i didnt end up fighting i was absolutley gutted and tbh i lost interest from about 15 till i hit 23 i was still in and out of gyms but not that serious with it. My point is like you asked do you feel like you missed the boat? I felt like i did miss the boat but probably was half down to me too having lost my V at the age of 14 to an older girl she was 18 and boxing took the back seat then cause i realised my penis wasnt just for pi55in out of lol, then came beer and boxing was 3rd in line till i was drunk and had a fight and it didnt go my way so went back to the only thing in life that doesnt let you down BOXING,i love boxing and it has made me the man i am today,it gave confidence and courage, you wont find another sport that will instill so much in you as boxing does. Give it a go and ut will be in you for life :bag: :TU:

You don't have to be good enough ... think of it as a (quote/unquote) "Martial Art" (which it is, actually) ... DESIGNED to make you a better man ... which is its primary purpose ...

... and forget about the winning & losing aspect ... it doesn't figure in ... 'cause if someone gives you a boxing lesson (so to speak) ... you won something ... you learned something ... something valuable ... (even if you got your ass kicked) ...

Give it a go :TU: A good mate of mine started late in his 20's and did it for a few years, it seriously hard work though, even armatures have to get up and do road work, eat really well etc, in the space of a year he lost several stone and ended up with a physic like Brad Pitt. As for getting hit it does hurt but adrenalin will get you through, unless you get your nose broke, that really ducking hurts!

I wanted to box at the age of 18. I had never been in a boys club in my life as there wasnt the facility in my town when i was growing up.

Being a Donny lad living in North Yorks i picked up the bbboc year book and found the name John Rushton.

Back then no internet so I wrote him a letter and got a reply to go to his gym in Armthorpe for a trial. Hardest afternoon work I had ever done!

Unfortunately didnt have any digs to stay plus I was 'in love' so didnt follow it through.

Its a shame cause I coulda been a contender.

Yeah that being "in love" stuff always seems to be to blame for wrecking a boxing career ! It was certainly a factor in my own boxing life

Don't want to sound like I'm being a prick mate, this is how I see it. Don't waste your time posting up on here saying you want to box, it would of been quicker to go and search on google find your local club and it's opening times and go from there if you are actually interested In learning to box. For most people it sounds a good idea but quickly realise it's not for them when they realise just what it takes to make a fighter

Good power, good chin, and a tight guard. Slow hands, couldn't fight on the back foot despite being taller than most opponents, and it would be fair to call me a basic fighter. I'm not exactly using a world level scale here either

I fought around 30 times in the amateurs and had a pretty good record, though I boxed mainly as a junior and the standard here (Canada, and in a weak boxing province,) isn't as high as it is in the UK. There are some notable promoters in Quebec, but I wasn't nearly accomplished enough to get signed by anyone serious. So I have no fancy thoughts that I could've been a world champion or anything like that, but I think I would've had the ability to be useful as a journeyman. Had I been in the UK, I may have looked into having some fights as the opponent to earn some extra money...that would probably have been the only realistic professional route for me, at least if I wanted to make money.

This.
I first walked in to a boxing gym aged 31. Trained for 3 years and in that time had 2 bouts: 1 win. It does take over your life, but I loved it. The only real problem I had was with picking up little niggling injuries that (due to my advanced age)took quite a long time to recover from. I had hoped for at least 5 - 10 bouts but that didn't happen. I'm glad I did it though. I always wanted to box as a kid but never got the opportunity.
Go for it :box:

When I was young, I thought it looked easy but soon realised it's not much fun being hit by someone who is different class or even just by someone who is used to sparring a lot
