I'd be very interested if the Boxing News editor Matt Christie could get a joint interview featured in the build up to Alvarez v Golovkin, with Brook, Rhodes , Murray and Macklin.
It would be interesting to read what their opinions are given that they've been in there.

just watch the show on boxnat10n that was on last night featuring in depth interviews with them all except brook - although matthew hatton was on. brilliant show.

Boxing news has definitely improved under Christie - I especially like the interviews with retired fighters; very honest responses. The Pele Reid one was great.

However Matt does use some bizarre analogies or similes and metaphors.

He was talking about Harry Potter and 'woldermort' in an article. I have no idea what this means or what it's about. It's assuming that all boxing News writers read Harry Potter.

I would rather eat my own sick with a finger up my arse than waste my time reading that childish shite

What about the over 50s? BN is a trade paper. I have no idea WTF Voldemort is, and it's a very lazy piece of journalism. There are endless other possibilities that are more well known or more appropriate

Don't want to get into an argument over Harry sodding Potter BUT it is incredibly popular & the vast majority of the readers even if not the biggest Potter fans would have at least heard of these characters & be able to work out the reference.

I appreciate you are over 50 & referring to characters from The Archers might have been more suitable, LOL.

I'm under 50 and have never heard of it either. I think it's improved a lot under Christie though. They used to have lots of self promotional stuff in there before like two pages of who they thought were the heroes of the week etc but now it's all proper boxing news.

Some of the features are excellent and there are plenty of them. That history column is a good read every week too.

I get the digital version for 40 quid a year and it's out on Tuesday nights, they really must graft to get it out by then. Wouldn't be without it.

I enjoy Boxing News but without wishing to go over old ground I've never read a word of Harry Potter or seen a minute of the films but I get the reference. It's the Star Wars of this generation; even if you've never seen it you're amazed if someone has no idea who Darth Vader is.

Seems harsh to criticise Matt Christie for making a reference to the most popular books of the last few decades!

Can forgive him his Harry Potter moments because he really tears into the sanctioning bodies for their nonsense. Never met him but he seems a decent bloke, that column about him meeting a mcgregor fan in a hotel bar on holiday was hilarious.

Anyhow one of the other writers called nobbins 'noggins' this week so voldermort, whoever he is, gets a pass

Does it really matter what references he uses

Boxing news does its job.. Keeps you informed

Thanks for the suggestions and kind words. Putting Boxing News together each week is an almighty slog, and it makes it worthwhile when we get feedback like this. Always good to hear ways we can improve too. And I agree, we should cut out any future references to Harry Potter! I think the writer of that article was Matt Bozeat, not myself. My knowledge of Potter and co is very limited indeed.

Weird, logged on this morning to make a thread about how I'd bought a copy of BN for the first time in years, and thought it was excellent, vastly improved with loads of well written+put together content.

So yeah, keep it up guys, great work

I've heard of Voldemort but no idea anything about him other than being in Harry Potter.in the grand scheme of things it's no big deal.

I will need to sign up to the electronic copy as I don't get the train to work now and don't get a chance to read every single word of an edition now- I just pick out the articles that appeal to me and always read the fight previews and opinion columns. I wouldn't feel as wasteful/frustrated not reading every page if it wasn't a hard copy. Plus I buy it without a subscription every week so costing myself additional dough.

For goodness sake this WAS a thread about interviewing previous opponents of Golovkin and Alvarez. Now we're onto Harry Potter!

I was back in the UK in June and bought both Boxing News and Boxing Monthly. Thought both were in fantastic shape and packed with great content - an even more impressive achievement given the state of the magazine market in the UK.
I honestly think people need to grasp how lucky there are to have two world-class publications tat a time where it's harder than ever for print - they're no doubt put together on the proverbial shoe-string by people who are clearly incredibly passionate about what they do. Can't think of another country in the world that can make that claim.

I liked the idea of it just being a general chat which could be twenty minutes if there was one big story or an hour + if loads was going on.

x3 - the sound quality was dodgy at times so my guess it was a combination of time constraints, no dedicated facility and no ability to monetise it.

It was initially time constraints. However, it's something we enjoyed doing and we're currently researching the best podcast platform for relaunching it. Once summer holidays etc are out the way, we plan to bring it back every week.
