Yes, I saw them. Don't know if they'll be down to any treatment he's had or whether he's had any accidents.
What a sad story. Guy who had it all and thrown it away. Always came across as an articulate fella, but I think he lived like he fought, as if every day/round was his last.
He never got the credit he deserved for outboxing Foreman like he did either. That's a good result when you look back on it.
Fast living seemed to be catching up with him after that though. I mean, he got blown away against Michael Bent and looked as though he was just going through the motions against Lennox Lewis.
He was a great combination puncher though, in fact he looked superb until he ran out of gas against Ray Mercer.
Tragic and I just hope he keeps well.

Apparently the Big Man was banging anything that moved when his career was on the up and at its height. Women, naturally. Great shame - he wasn't as limited as was made out. Although I do love the Evander anecdote:
Producer: "Evander, we want you to have a part in Rocky V."
Real Deal: "What do I have to do?"
Producer: "You lose to Tommy Morrison."
Real Deal: "Sorry. I ain't that good an actor."
All the best to Tommy though.

His comment on the number of boxers using steroids was quite interesting. Wonder if he has ever named names...

I reccommend the Razor Ruddock fight, probably one of his best results.
A while ago I got a video made up from a boxing site with quite alot of his best fights, one of his best performances was the Mercer fight, even though he lost badly up untill the knockout he was doing a number on Mercer, great combinations and very busy.
He may not have been championship material but he was better than most think.

His knockout loss to Mercer is very brutal, Tommy landed with everything in the first 3 rounds, showed what a great chin Mercer had.

Yes, I noticed that quote as well, wonder if it's true? Although there is part of me that doesn't want him to name names, ignorance is bliss ets ets.
Talking of the Mercer - Morrison fight I always thought it showed great strength of character from Morrison to come back from such a bruital KO loss.
I'm also sure that I read somewhere that Mercer beat Morrison in the Amatuers, possibly the Olympic trails? Can anyone confire this?

What interested me about this quote was that here we have a guy who is obviously still in love with the game, who still follows it avidly and given the chance would jump at the opportunity to fight again.
Its not like he's coming from a point of view where he's anti boxing, has an axe to grind or feels let down or disillusioned with the game and therefore would wish to besmirch his fellow pros.
so you do have to think that what he suggests is true

i've only seen the Mercer fight. Starts off ok, but he tires quite quickly...and the KO is brutal. Getting bashed when his lights have already been turned out. Mercer lived up to his nickname then.

Although I can be an old romantic, steroid use is almost certainly much more widespread than we would have ourselves believe.

I don't think that steroids are abused that much in the lower weight divisions, due to the fact of how much weight they would put on.
In the heavyweight division it is going to be inevitable that some people will have used steroids. Remember that boxers can have months between fights, so drug testing after a bout is pretty useless if the steroid abuse took place a couple of months in the past.
Some of the side effects of steroid abuse, are rages , and an uncontrollable sexual urge, that does sound like some of the recent heavys.
I hope that there is no abuse in this sport , as i like it so much. But in this modern age winning can mean the difference between being a has been , and being a millionaire. The temptation is going to be there

heavyweight division is the prime area for concern....
You know the guys who arent quite big enough naturally so dip into the pharmacy store.....
the same can be said for those who jump divisions when they dont need to natuarally.....

Didn't Roy Jones Jnr get tested positive?
it all kind of went quiet after that.

I think Fernando Vargas did, he served a ban recently.

Roy Jones and his opponent both tested positive and both escaped punishment. Dispicable favouritism.

Good article on Tommy - he has enough stories to fill 5 books I'm sure.
Was one of my favourite fighters.
And if it's true about woamn being bad for a boxer then that would explain Tommy's chin and stamina problems!
HE loved a drink too.
Steroids are SO prevalent in certain sports - it is not who is using them, but who is best at concealing their usage. There are many ways to mask it.
As to boxing - look at the guys who jump divisions or are too muscular (pazienza, Vargas suddenly looked ripped, Roy Jones, Shane Mosley)
But most of all the heavyweights - Golota, Macline (definitely) Grant, Klitschkos, Tyson, Tua have all heard rumours....even Ruiz prob.
Remember Botha also tested for roids and hardly looked like Hercules.

The main reason why these boxers are allowed to get away with drug abuse is because the guvorning bodies are interested in the money from sanctioning fees. Roy Jones Jnr generates more money than any other light heavy, so if he was banned the twats that run the sport wouldn't be able to get so much from there fees when lesser fighters battle for there titles.

I thought Roids were only any use if you trained.
Which would rule Tua and Tyson out.

There was a post here about an ex-heavyweight who over did the steroids, can’t remember his name but it ended with him losing both legs and now warning kids of the dangers.
Like in almost all sports, they will be used and abused; surprised we do not hear more of it in boxing.
When I look at the runners in the Olympics, and see their muscle definition it makes me wonder how running can give them such definition.
If some cheat is caught out, they are not always the champion, so how does the champion compete and beat the cheat?
One of the Booth brothers recently admits to being a crack head for the last year or so, yet he’d fought in that time.
Maybe the ones who get caught are the tip of the iceberg, the unfortunate few who have timed it wrong, not as educated as the others in the use of them.

agreed Toney though lets be clear on one thing, being a crack head would in no way improve you skills as an athlete, boxer or whatever, in fact quite the opposite.
I have more sympathy for those who get in trouble with recreational drugs thant I do those who con the public into thinking they are soemthing they arent through perfromance enhancing drugs.
You will find most rec. drugs do not enhance performance moreover they work in the opposite direction.
the exception to this would be amphetatmine based products on which you can train exhaustively (ephedrine etc). But crack, smack, puff, e's probably even charlie wouldnt have a positive effect on you whilst training. Steroids on the other hand...........

Cocaine improves reflexes and is a huge confidence booster, which is a big factor in performance based events. Probably wouldn't be as much use in boxing where you need to be totally zoned in on your opponent and the confidence could work against you, but it's certianly useful individual sports.
