How about for heavyweight, Ron Lyle

I would think more people under rate Greg Page, who on his best day vs Ron's best day would carve a victory over Ron.
Ron gets a lot of attention for his heavy handed skills, but Greg on his best day, could just about out finesse anyone.
Not sure how many people know that.....Greg was too lackadaisical to make for a great career though. The belly fire did not seem to be there.
Not sure I can offer up any first contributions in the various divisions...it takes someone else throwin' out a name for me to come up with a counter thought. lol

Page seems to be another of those guys who gets dismissed because of his inconsistency, but he was probably the best of the bunch in the 80s not named Tyson and Holmes and Holyfield. I'm a huge fan of Dokes myself, but Page was damn good. A shoot out between him and Lyle would have been awesome. It's a shame that Page is usually remembered for either his sparring session with Tyson or his brutal, life threatening loss to Dale Crowe.

This is going to sound bizarre considering his record but... Reggie Strickland... Was alot better than his record indicates. He was the kind of man who would willingly lose on purpose, like twenty losses in a row, then he'd bet on himself against an undefeated prospect and get the upset. He figured out a long time ago that you could make a ton of money "doing business" but he could have been a contender.

I'd say underrated p4p... He fought from 147 to 200 so it's hard to pin him down to division, but his skills certainly crossed over from division to division.

Absolutely; good shout.
I'm going with:-
Heavyweight: Gregorio Peralta - He lost every time he stepped up, but he was a tough man. Went the distance with Bonavena, Foreman & Lyle which took some doing.
Welterweight: Marlon Starling - Uncompromising & fearless. Should be in the HOF.

Scott Harrison at feather.....a heap of troubles outside of the ring and 'only' a WBO champion, but Harrison was a helluva fighter and should really have been in the mix for some huge unification fights. He still beat a few good 'uns however.

I really think both Peralta and Starling are good calls.
If Mauro Mina was from U.S or a Euro fighter. I think we'd be including his name as well.
Another with a lot of potential, but some bad breaks.

Kinda hard to think of an underrated heavyweight. Maybe Jerry Quarry.

I'm a big Page fan, and concur with the Lyle vs Page assessment. But Greg's love was basketball, and his father probably forced him into the sport. Could bang with both hands, and was never legitimately floored when he was good. Not as quick as Michael Dokes, but definitely faster. Larry Holmes was right in avoiding him.

I actually see Quarry as overrated. Anytime the 70s comes up, you'll hear people say almost religiously that Quarry coulda, shoulda, been champion or that if he was in any other era he'd of been champion, or if he was around today he'd be the greatest cruiserweight of all time, etc.
He was a very entertaining fighter, yes, but I honestly never thought he was as great as people made him out to be. He lost twice to Ali, Frazier and Norton. He seemed to always come up short whenever he moved up. Maybe I'm too harsh on the man, but he's rather overrated.

I agree, Tommy Morrison fits the bill.

Quarry overrated ? He dropped Patterson 4 times in 2 fights, a win and a draw, stopped a pretty good contender in Thad Spencer, took a one sided decision from the bigger and heavier 29-1 Buster Mathis, stopped 24-0 (24K’s ) Mac Foster in 6, iced Commonwealth champion Jack Bodell, who just took the title from Joe Bugner in a round, totally dominated a bigger stronger Ron Lyle, and demolished Earnie Shavers in 1 round.

We're ALSO talking about the same Jerry Quarry who was KAYOED by George Chuvalo. The same Jerry Quarry who DREW Tony Doyle and went the distance with Brian London. The same Jerry Quarry who was STOPPED and OUTCLASSED by Ali twice, Norton once, and Frazier twice. The same Jerry Quarry who was outclassed by Eddie Machen and Jimmy Ellis.

Morrison is one of those guys that probably could have been really something, but personal issues always held him back. Like Dokes, Pryor and many others he battled a drug problem... And it was too much too soon... Just when he'd restore your faith in him, he'd lose royally to Michael Bennt or go life and death with Ross Purrity... Then he'd kayo someone like Razor Ruddock and all would be forgiven and forgotten. Maybe had the criticism been harder, maybe if his road to the top had been tougher, maybe he'd of been more mature and responsible but what ifs and what might have beens, have no relation to reality. We can only go with what we have. And he was an incredibly inconsistent heavyweight, who was matched rather carefully. But, he could dig down deep and his chin was tougher than given credit for. It was his mind, and his attitude that screwed him up.
