I've heard Frampton may be in the market for a new trainer, he seems to like inexperienced unqualified blokes training him, maybe Seamus will get the gig.

Bit harsh on Shane McGuigan maybe? Inexperienced - most definitely but he had a good amateur career and has more knowledge on strength and conditioning than a lot of trainers out there.

I think he takes a bit of unwarranted flak because of who is Dad is. He's trained a 2 weight world champion - not bad for a young, inexperienced trainer. Time will tell if it was beginners luck or not. He had a good boxer to work with in fairness but I do think he's a good trainer.

Pretty sure he had sub 15 fights.... And just won under 10s

Seems a nice chap but defo hasn't earned his stripes whether he is good or bad trainers

I would be amazed if he had that many, more like 5 winning 3

He's won 3 national titles in Ireland. I'm pretty sure he's had more than 15 fights too. I reckon it was closer to 40.

I reckon it was between 30-40 between Ireland and England, Coco. He fought a few decent club boxers in Ireland but nobody that has gone on to better things. I'm not sure of who he fought in England. Apparently he won an English Senior novices title too before he moved to box in Ireland.

Naturally well-built, bigger than his old man ever was, and heavy-handed, Shane embarked on a 69kg amateur career that included senior titles, over 30 wins and just a couple of losses that Jake assures me were both dubious decisions. He was sparring the likes of BJ Saunders, Frank Buglioni and Bradley Skeete, and a pro career appeared to beckon. But for a kid that weighed a solid 74kg at 16 years of age, making weight in his late teens was becoming a tougher fight than anything between the ropes.

I remember reading that Barry had him in different clubs trying to win titles in England and Ireland, picking the weakest option and flitting between the two.

I think he got to a Novice under 10 final in England (not sure if he won) - however, in reality he could have done that in 2 or 3 fights against basic opposition.

Same goes with the novice titles in Ireland.

Not trying to knock the lad, but when you read from Barry how he could have been a top top pro etc. there is no evidence to support that.

obv you can get the odd poor division / luck,, but unlikely at welter/light middle

You don't need to have been a horse to be a jockey.

yeah I think the key thing with the ams is who you fight/fought... not numbers

some coaches under match... mine certainly didnt
