Ireland's Katie Taylor will fight for a world title next month in Cardiff, promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed.

The Olympic gold medallist from London 2012 will take on two-weight world champion Anahi Sanchez for the WBA world lightweight crown on 28 October at the Principality Stadium.

The fight will be on the undercard of Anthony Joshua's heavyweight title defence against Kubrat Pulev.

Taylor has won her six professional fights so far, four by knockout.

The Bray woman now faces Argentine fighter Sanchez, who defeated her compatriot Cecila Sofia Mena to take the the vacant WBA belt.

Sanchez is an experienced fighter with a record of 17 wins and two defeats from 19 bouts, although both losses came in Europe.

Taylor's last win came against Jasmine Clarkson of the United States in Brooklyn at the end of July.

The 31-year-old stopped Clarkson in three rounds.

I really don't know how anyone can get excited by women's boxing.

I do not feel I am sexist but I do not have any interest in Taylor nor female boxing at all. It is just how it is, it does not get my juice flowing, I cannot relate as I cannot imagine myself in there, I am not in awe of anything and the characters mean nothing. I have never heard of the champ she is fighting, I have not heard of any of her opponents, I cannot look them up on boxrec and say "ahhhhh ok so she fought so and so who I know" etc as I know none of them

I'm the same - can't get into it at all.

All the promotors are signing 1 or 2 now as well to get on the bandwagon.

There's just not the power or depth for me to be that interested.

Look at Taylor...lightweight is an okay division by women's standards, yet she's already top ten on BoxRec and fighting for a title when just 2 of her 6 opponents have winning records. And even as a very good female fighter the lack of serious pop is clear in her case, as it is with another gold medalist in Clarissa Shields, who hasn't dropped one of her overmatched opponents despite hitting them with everything.

Not just that. The girl that Claressa Shields won her "World Championship" from was 16-0. Yet that girl fought as if she'd never boxed in her entire life, and moved like she had 2 left feet. If THAT can become a 16-0 World Champion...why should anybody even care?

Good for her getting the shot but this fight should be in Dublin and not Cardiff, propping up another Joshua card to help boost Irish ppv buys.

From a boxing purist point of view Taylor is a joy to watch. However, womens boxing is similar to the lower male weigh divisions when it comes to power / knockouts so it wont always appeal to everyone.

Womens boxing is still in its infancy stage and will continue to grow and develop over the next few decades...and the depth and the increased fan knowledge will grow alongside it.

It ain't the Power/Knockouts thing that gets me with Women's Boxing. It's the technique or lack thereof. They can't fight. They can't box. They have sh*t coordination. A male amateur 5 fights into his career, is probably as good if not better than Women's Boxings P4P #1. That's just the way it is.

I'm an 0-1 amateur. Not a single doubt in my mind that I could whip the Women's Boxings Heavyweight Champions ass TODAY. With zero training.

She'd even have weight on me, and it wouldn't matter.

There are some legitimately good female boxers out there, like Katie Taylor, but problem is that finding competitive opposition is often a very tough thing. Rarely is it high-quality stuff on both ends. There seems to be more top amateurs going pro now, which should help add more depth over time.

Yes there are some girls that can legitimately Box. As you say they never have any competition because there's only ever 1 of 'em at any given time in any 1 weight class, and the 1 time that wasn't the case (Laila Ali vs Ann Wolfe) one of them ran off for a "career" in TV and left us without the biggest fight in Women's Boxing history. Forever killing any interest I could ever have in it.

Katie Taylor and Claressa Shields are probably the 2 best Women Boxers out there right now, and there's no doubt in my mind that men who are 30 pounds or more smaller than them, with significantly less experience could beat them both.

Call it sexist if you want, but what it is is the truth. Ask Lucia Rijker...she found that sh*t out the hard way.

I feel comparing sexism to racism is a little unfair in this context. I am probably a bit old fashioned in my views but I don't find any female sport interesting in the slightest, none of it. I don't dispute every womans right to participate in any sport but it will never interest me. To be perfectly honest, and I'll get my tin hat ready now, I don't find disabled sport interesting either. I don't watch the paralympics or any other stuff like that, same with the female sport in that I don't dispute any disabled persons right to compete but I'm just being honest in that I don't find it very interesting. Does that make me a bad person?
