I think Wilder is catching Ortiz at the perfect time, Ortiz hasn't improved (or declined in all fairness) he has plateaued since the Jennings bout in my opinion.

What do you lads feel about this fight?

Is it finally signed and over the line ?

They were arguing over monies and Ortiz was desperately trying to get Joshua stripped but couldn't.

Ortiz to savvy for Wilder

Wilders jank imo, exciting but jank

It is a great fight, fair play... the only downside that these are two of a limited numbers of fighters that are sellable for Joshua NOW. Given Joshua's projectory - and his fights he is taking there are only a certain number of fighters who can fight Joshua now that will be considered acceptable - these are.

I wonder what this does to Joshua's WBA mandatory. Ustinov? Ustinov-Oquendo final eliminator?

Unless ortiz's skills or ambition have significantly since i saw him last i expect him to win. The latter is very much possible. If hes got the ambition, then on paper he has all the attributes to hammer wilder.

Obviously don't know the ins and outs but I would have thought Ortiz should have waited for the AJ fight - surely that would be more cash.

Way more, I'll believe this when Ortiz is in the ring.

Wilder too busy, powerful and hungry for recognition. I think he'll be prepared to dig deeper that Ortiz if it's an up and down thriller.

Perhaps, but surely his split vs AJ would drastically improve if it is a unification rather than a mandatory.
He may well consider the Wilder fight a risk worth taking in the long run.

Wilder seems to have plateaued / been found out since becoming champion. He's never looked like losing but has hardly looked convincing either.

Ortiz just seems to be looking fatter and lazier with every outing..... I'm hoping this fight will motivate both and we end up with a fight that makes us go.... "mmm, do you know something - the winner could give Joshua some questions".

Its a bit like Parker, since he's fought for the world title and become champion he's looked average. Just hoping that one of the three (and/or Hughie also) can put in a performance that makes me really want to see him in with Joshua with a good outside chance.

I think Ortiz has more talent, more schooled. I agree with James' prediction. Although I also think there is a big if about his motivation. He's looked pretty poor of late.

If he beats Wilder, he has a slice of the pie, which puts him on in a better position, gives him automatic credibility and let's not forget it's a much easier fight.

I see Ortiz taking the first few rounds with not much action or quality.

Around the 7-8 he starts gassing and Wilder lands a big punch that gets him going and forces a stoppage.

I rate Wilder.

I guess Wilder does have game changing power but don't think Ortiz has ever shown cardio issues so might be a tight fight

I don't think Ortiz can go through the gears like he used too.
Personally I think he's on the slide.

I think Wilder's power is getting some serious overating... yes he has a great KO percentage - but those days of 1 punch early KO's seem to have gone when he steps up and since he's been champion.

Power is the only thing he has that puts him in the position he's in. If he didn't have the power Szpilka would've taken his title from him...hell he likely would've never won it in the first place. He's not that skilled of a boxer, and his defense leaves a lot to be desired. Exceptional power is the one thing that helps him get by. He's not able to score one punch KO's a lot because he's not very good, and his accuracy is sh*t.

What a fight. This is Wilders 1st acid test to see if he is legit. Can not wait for this. Whoever wins this imo is the no1 heavyweight.

Just a week or so he was calling for AJ to be stripped if he didn't get a shot, so it seemed like he still wanted that fight. I'm a bit surprised that this came together rather than Ortiz waiting it out for Joshua.

Spilzka doesn't exactly have the greatest chin though.
